Jan 5, 2024

Robert (Bob) Phillip Best of, Roy Utah (formerly from Brigham City), passed from this life on December 16, 2023, at the age of 90.

He was born on October 12, 1933, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Robert and Evelyn (Peg) Best. He was raised and educated in North Platte, Nebraska. While in high school, he joined the National Guard. After graduating he moved to Salt Lake City to work for the Union Pacific Railroad as a machinist.

He married Lois Lagerquist, and had one son, Greg. They were later divorced. He attended Excelsis Beauty school in Salt Lake City and met Ronda Moncur. They married and raised their two children, Holly and Kim. They later divorced. As young hairdressers Bob and Ronda opened an Excelsis beauty school as well as their own salon in Brigham City, UT.

Bob owned and managed Robert’s Hair Fashions for 45 years. Bob was a world-class hairdresser, competing (and often winning) in hairdressing competitions that he flew to as the pilot of his own plane.

He met and married Gay Fackrell in 1981, and gained Natalie as a daughter. Bob and Gay built a pool at their home in Brigham City and had many happy memories and “Best Fests” there with their children and grandchildren. They loved traveling in their motorhome together and wintering in Yuma, AZ. Bob and Gay were absolutely inseparable, and recently celebrated their anniversary of 42 years.

Bob was an adventurous man. In addition to flying, he had a passion for racing motorcycles, which he did on a national level with his son Kim. He loved riding his Harley Davidson with his son Greg. He also loved boating, camping, skydiving, fishing (including tying his own flies), hunting with his dog Amber, golfing, billiards, reading, and playing cards. He loved to compete and brought home many trophies and medals from motorcycle races, as well as golf and billiard tournaments. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and son Greg Lunkwitz. He is survived by his wife Gay and children Holly Walker, Kim Best (Shiree), Natalie Williams (Ryan), his sister Sherry Jennings (Gary), honorary daughter Michelle Lunkwitz Scoggan, 14 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. He was a fighter to the very end and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to express appreciation to Bristol Hospice Services, especially Ronnie. A memorial service for close family and friends will be held on January 13th at 11 am at 3845 S 2000 W Roy, UT. Special appreciation to the Monte Vista Ward for their help and kindness to the family.
