Scott spent his childhood in Ogden, then later moving to Whittier, California in the second grade until fifth grade. The family then moved back to Salt Lake City, where he attended the remainder of fifth grade. They were able to move back to Ogden where he began his sixth-grade year at Mound Fort Middle School, continuing on to attend Highland Junior High and then Ben Lomond High School, where he graduated in 1966. He was a proud Ben Lomond Scot! He had so many fond memories of his high school days and continued to stay in touch with so many wonderful friends over the years. He was very actively involved in planning reunions and took great joy in maintaining those friendships. Scott then went on to attend Weber State University on an academic scholarship, graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, with a minor in Accounting. While attending WSU, he was an active member of the Excelsior Fraternity, nationally recognized as Beta Theta Pi. Scott cherished his time at Weber State and the many friendships he continued to make there. He continued to support Weber State by becoming a proud member of the Alumni Association.

Scott began his career at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a temporary employee in 1968 as he was attending college. He began full-time employment there when he moved to Fresno, California on January 1, 1972. During his time working for the IRS, he traveled the country teaching and mentoring in the Internal Audit division. He made so many friends in his travels that he continued to remain in contact with. It was during his time at the IRS that he earned the nickname “Skeeter.” He retired as a Supervisory Internal Auditor in December 2004, following an honorable and dedicated career of over 35 years. Scott truly loved his time at the IRS, the amazing co-workers he had, and the lifelong friendships they continued to share. They all became a part of his ever-extending family whom he cherished.

At the time of his retirement, his beloved mother, Margaret, was living with him following the death of his father, Cork. He was the greatest example of loving and honoring his parents. On January 4, 2005, Margaret passed away. It is no coincidence that he passed away on the same day 19 years later.

Scott most enjoyed spending every minute he could with his children and beloved grandchildren. He was the ultimate family guy! There was rarely a sporting event or school activity that he wasn’t in attendance. Scott quickly became “Grandpa Scott” to most of North Ogden, caring for so many children and their families that were affiliated in any way with his own. He also enjoyed gardening, traveling (especially all his trips to Disneyland and Newport Beach with his family), loved roller coasters, Broadway musicals (especially Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, and Wicked), cheering on his Utah Jazz and being a season ticket holder, caring for his cherished dogs (Abby and then Allie), and spending time with friends. In his younger years, he was an avid golfer and skier, enjoying weekly trips up to Nordic Valley with his children for many years. He was actively involved in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, Chrysalis Human Rights Committee, Ben Lomond Class of ’66 Reunion Committee, and anything else that his daughter may have roped him into! He was a regular volunteer at classroom events and school carnivals. He truly lived a life of service, a legacy that will not be forgotten!

Scott had a way of making everyone around him feel loved, valued and like they were the most important thing to him. He never forgot anyone’s birthday, anniversary, always sending his best wishes and love. He also never forgot to say thank you, sending a note of appreciation for whatever was given or done for him, always teaching his family about the importance of expressing gratitude to others. He was one of the most selfless people, always willing to help anyone that he could. He would worry often about not only his own family, but of all his many friends. He truly found his greatest joy in seeing others happy and in the joy they experienced.

Scott LOVED his family. He was always so proud of his children and grandchildren. His favorite saying to each of them was “I love you to the moon and back,” his love truly being out of this world for each of them. Scott is survived by his son, Braydon Critchlow of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter Cydnee (Ryan) Jones of Saint George, Utah. Scott also has six grandchildren: Chloe, Graeson, and Kyan (Turtle) Critchlow (Las Vegas, Nevada) and Stockton (Noah), Jaxson (Chomp) and Madden Jones (Saint George, Utah). Scott was preceded in death by his father, Carlos Coe Critchlow Jr., and mother, Margaret Louise Dewey. We know that he has had a joyous reunion with his beloved parents!

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday morning 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the mortuary. A graveside dedication will follow the service with Ryan Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society as both organizations were very important to Scott.
