Shirley Rose Barnard Hungerford, 93, a long-time Ogden resident, passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of January 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on January 9, 1930, in Roy, Utah, to Clarence Joseph Starkey and Rose Mary Anne Christensen, she was also the younger sister of Ronald Starkey. Raised and schooled in Roy until she was twelve, the family relocated to Ogden where she graduated from Ogden High School. Afterward she returned to Roy at 19 and lived there until she was 65, finally settling back in Ogden, where she spent her golden years.

A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Shirley loved working in the Holy Temple, which she did for over twenty years.

Shirley was married on November 17, 1948, to Dorel Homer Barnard in the Salt Lake City Temple. They had five children, Larry, Ricky, Jon, Julie, and Amy. Dorel passed on July 19, 1984, and was laid to rest at Roy City Cemetery.

Shirley later married Wayne N. Hungerford in 1995, and he passed away on November 3, 2009.

A long-time employee of the Weber County School District, Shirley was also Executive Secretary of Farmers Grain Co-Op.

She was a member and President of the Ladies of the Guard and a volunteer at the Hill Air Force Base Museum for over twenty years.

Shirley loved golf, reading, visiting historical sites, and dancing.

Mom, we will miss your sense of humor and your thirst for life you embraced everything that came along, you were super service oriented, and no challenge was too great. You were extremely dedicated to our country, our military, and our family. We love you.

She was preceded in death by both her husbands; her sons, Larry, and Ricky; one grandson, Mathew Greenwald; two great-grandchildren, Zoe and Chandler Barnard; her parents; and her brother, Ron.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Old Post Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5191 Old Post Road, Ogden. Friends may visit family on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Roy City Cemetery, 2300 W 5200 S, Roy, where she will be laid to rest next to Dorel.
