Vernon Reed Ostlund

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Reed Ostlund, who left us on January 9, 2024. Born in Fairview, Utah on September 11, 1945, to Glenn Rigby and Renee Ostlund, Reed lived a life full of love, resilience, and service. His captivating charisma and compassionate heart made him a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew him. In the words of Maya Angelou, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Reed had a unique gift for making people feel heard and deeply loved.

Reed lived an extraordinary life, one that was filled with dedication, hard work, and resilience. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, receiving the Vietnam service medal, National defense medal, and Republic of Vietnam campaign medal with device. After his service, Reed became the Chief of Police for the Department of Defense, where his sharpshooting skills earned him numerous accolades. However, his life wasn’t just about work and recognition. Reed was an avid outdoorsman who relished in fishing, hunting, and spending time in nature. His love for the outdoors was only surpassed by his love for his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who cherished every moment spent with his family.

Reed is survived by his beloved wife, Janice Chew; his daughters, Anita White and Cody (John) Gold; step-daughters, Stacy (William) Johnson, Jodi Stuart, and Tamara (Gary) Polen; grandchildren, Amanda (Nik) Brent, and Alexzandria (Brody) Conger; siblings, Larene Hawkins, and John Ostlund. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Rigby and Renee Ostlund; son, Eric Krauter; sisters, Kathy Allan, Judy; and grandparents, Reed Jensen, and Rebecca (Bird).

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the life of a man who truly embodied the spirit of love, resilience, and service.
