Robert “Bruce” Allen

Jul 2, 2024

January 21, 1947 — June 29, 2024

Robert Bruce Allen, 77, returned home to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, June 29, 2024, after courageously fighting cancer and Parkinson’s disease. He passed peacefully at home in Brigham City, Utah, surrounded by his family.

Bruce was born on January 21, 1947, to David and Athalie Allen in Provo, Utah. He spent his early years in American Fork, Utah. At the age of 12, his family moved to Brigham city, Utah. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1965. Some of his favorite hobbies were firing model rockets with his friends, tinkering with electrical and wood working projects and reading. He also joined the stage crew in high school and continued working with the stage crew in college. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and hunting with his family.

He served a 2 ½ year mission in Samoa, where he grew to love the people and culture. After his mission, he attended Utah State University in Logan where he got his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1972. It was here that he met and fell in love with his eternal sweetheart, Janice Maughan. In 1970, they were married in the Logan Utah Temple. While attending the university, they welcomed their first child, Robby. After graduating from college, they moved their family to Brigham City. The family then moved to West Valley, Utah, where they welcomed another son, Jeffrey. When Bruce got a job at FMC Soda Ash Mine near Green River, Wyoming, their family moved to Green River. Some things they enjoyed were fishing, hunting, target shooting, and climbing the hills in their old beat-up truck. In 1974, Melanie, a daughter, was born. Then shortly afterwards, they welcomed another daughter, Janette.

Bruce and Janice built a home in Mt. View, Wyoming, out in the country, where they did most of the work themselves. They longed to be back with their families in Utah, so when Bruce got a job with Thiokol, they moved back to Brigham City, Utah. In Brigham City, they welcomed another daughter, Wendy. They had a home built in Brigham City in 1980 where Bruce did the plumbing and electrical work. They lived in this home until the present time. At this home, they welcomed their last son, Larry, into their big family.

Bruce was very talented. He had the reputation of being able to fix anything and kept things running smoothly at work and at home. He could be found using his snow blower going throughout the neighborhood clearing snow off sidewalks and driveways and doing electrical work for neighbors. Bruce loved to read and learn new things. He could fix anything from vehicles to computers. He was the go-to guy for his family and neighbors if anything was broken.

Bruce was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His favorite calling was to serve at the Wet Pack Cannery in Ogden with Janice. He was also an especially valiant home teacher, and truly loved the families he served.

His wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed. He was loving, compassionate and non-judgmental. He helped everyone feel safe, welcome, heard, understood, and forgiven.

Bruce is survived by his dear wife, Janice, and his 6 children: Robert (Jenni), Jeff, Melanie (Terry), Janette, Wendy, and Larry (Olivia). He has also been blessed with 19 wonderful grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Mike Allen and his sister, Athalie Maughan.

Preceding him in death were his parents, David and Athalie Allen; brothers: David Allen and Brent Allen; daughter-in-law: Kristine (Poulsen) Allen; granddaughter: Cera Apodaca; and nephew: Mark Allen.

His family would like to give a special thanks to his doctors, nurses, therapists, and others who helped give us extra time with our dear husband, Dad, grandfather, and friend.
