George Farnes Welch

February 15, 1930 – July 12, 2024
George Farnes Welch of Corinne, Utah, peacefully passed away July 12, 2024. George was born February 15, 1930, to William Charles and Verda Farnes Welch in Tremonton, Utah. His family moved to Corinne when he was five years. His parents taught him to work on the farm with his younger brothers. He experienced many changes from the bare necessities of the depression days to the technological advances and luxuries of today.
He was sealed in the Logan Utah Temple to Dyan Mills, his high school sweetheart, on October 29, 1948. They created a beautiful life of 71 years together before her passing on April 7, 2020. What a joyful reunion they must be having!
During the first six years of their marriage George served a two-year mission in Southern California; then served in the army for two years during the Korean War. When returning from his service in Korea, he received word that his father had passed away. He lovingly cared and provided for his mother for 39 years.
George earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University in 1958, and while maintaining the farm, taught sixth grade at Bunderson Elementary School in Brigham City, Utah for 29 years. He was a “hands-on” educator, and many of his former students have commented that he was their “favorite teacher”.
George lived a life of love and service. He was a devoted disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. He served faithfully as Stake Patriarch, High Councilman, Bishop, and in many other capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He ministered compassionately, focusing on the needs of others before himself. He and Dyan served a mission in Detroit, Michigan and three missions to Juneau, Alaska. They also served many years in the Ogden and Brigham City LDS temples where he found great joy serving as a Sealer.
George served many decades in the Boy Scouts of America (earning the Silver Beaver Award) and was proud to have his son and all his grandsons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He loved sharing outdoor experiences with others. He enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, working and gardening. Neighbors regularly found produce from his gardens left on their porch.
George was a loving and attentive father and grandfather. He delighted in good music, especially listening to Dyan and his children sing and play the piano and organ.
George often shared what he had come to realize as the most important things in life: The Atonement of Jesus Christ, Making Sacred Covenants with the Lord, and The Sealing of Eternal Families in the Temple.
George is preceded in death by his wife (Dyan), children (Robert and Deann), parents (William and Verda), and brothers (Phil and Keith). He is survived by two brothers: Cyril Welch (LaPriel) and Terry Welch (Hope); and his children: Joann Call (Raymond), Kathleen Campbell (Jeffery), Susan Mangum (Bardell), Janette Peterson (Eldon), Richard Welch (Vikki), and KayLynn Larsen (Allen); 25 grandchildren, and 51 great grandchildren.
We express our sincere gratitude to the fine people of The Gables Assisted Living of Brigham City, and Aegis Hospice Care for their attentive and tender care of our beloved father. We also deeply appreciate the many friends and family members who brightened Dad’s days with their thoughtful cards, phone calls and personal visits.
