Jacqueline “Jackie” Slot Neilson

Jun 17, 2024

1937 – 2024

Jacqueline “Jackie” Slot Neilson was called home by her Heavenly Father, eldest brother, and mother, on June 13, 2024. Jackie was born March 23, 1937 in Ogden, Utah to Lewis Pete Slot and Esther Cole Slot and was the oldest daughter of seven children.

She married Lynn Jay Neilson on March 17, 1956 in Elko Nevada. They have shared the last 68 years together.

Jackie lived a full, vibrant life with a spunky personality. In her early years she was athletic, a bit of a tom boy who played sports and was well liked.

She worked at McKay-Dee Hospital for 19 years in the culinary division, she was a naturally gifted cook. Preparing a meal for family and friends represented her loving and caring personality, as she cooked her way into the hearts of all who knew her. She gathered her family every Sunday for “Sunday Dinner” for many years. Everyone was welcome and loved at Sunday Dinner!

Jackie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; she loved serving the children in primary. Jackie loved gardening, puzzles, canning, camping, shopping and lunch dates. Her greatest joy was tending and raising her grandchildren. She took great pride in spoiling her five granddaughters and even greater joy in spoiling her great grandchildren. Grandma really put the great in great-grandmother.

She was known as Grandma Jackie to all that knew and loved her. She lived a life full of love, service and compassion.

She is survived by her husband Lynn Jay Neilson, children; Roxane Fernandez, Rod Neilson, Kim Hall, sisters; Charlene Dodgen, Connie (Paul) Sacket and brother Lewis (Cyndy) Slot. She has 5 granddaughters, 7 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter due in September.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers George Slot, Kerry Slot, Gary Slot (Annie); brother-in-law Norm Dodgen (Charlene); sons-in-law Edward Fernandez, Jeff Hall and daughter-in-law Kathy Neilson.
