Richard Morgan Baker, 89, of Ogden, Utah passed away on March 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 18, 1934, in Mendon, Utah, the son of William Melvin Baker and Fern Walker. He was the ninth of ten children. He graduated from Bear River High School in 1952 where he was a member of the swimming team. He served in the U.S. Navy from March 1953 to January 1960 and was a veteran of the Korean War. He married Georgia Rose Porter on March 27, 1958, in Franklin, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on July 29, 1959. He was a refrigeration mechanic and retired from Hill Air Force Base in June 1987.

Richard was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings, but his favorite was ministering Elder. He was known for his friendly demeanor and always greeted everyone with a smile and kind words. He loved helping others and could put anyone at ease. Richard left behind a legacy of love, kindness, laughter, an unmatched work ethic, and a family who dearly loved him.

For most of his life, he loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family. He was a talented gardener and could make anything grow. He was an avid fan of college and professional sports, including Weber State and BYU. In his later years, he enjoyed family history and collecting stamps.

He is survived by his wife Georgia, son Marty (Jia) of Peoria, Arizona and his daughter Wendy (Chris) Smemoe of Orem, Utah; seven grandchildren (Eric, McKenna, and Sydney Baker, and Christian, Anna, Eliza, and Catherine Smemoe).

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the Canyon Hollows Ward Chapel, 1550 Rushton St., Ogden, Utah. The viewing will be Friday, March 15 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah and at 9:40 a.m. on Saturday, March 16 prior to services. Interment will be in Leavitt’s Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah.
