Steven DeVar Geary

Mar 12, 2024

February 10, 1947 — March 8, 2024

Husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, Steven DeVar Geary, peacefully passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024, with family by his side.

Steve was born on February 10, 1947, in Preston, Idaho, to DeVar and Joyce Geary, and spent his formative years in Ogden as the adoring and protective older brother to David and Brad. He attended Ben Lomond High School and was a standout in wrestling and track and field. His exploits in the latter earned him an athletic (in addition to an academic) scholarship to Weber State College, where he studied mathematics and physics, served as president of Beta Theta Pi, and set a school record in the discus throw that stood for over 20 years.

After completing his master’s degree in computer science at the University of Utah, he spent the next four decades working in information technology management. Colleagues fondly remember him as a brilliant mind and even kinder man.

Steve was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a full-time missionary in the British South Mission from 1966 to 1968 and in many other callings.

While at Weber State, he met Mary Jane Moulton, a fellow Ogden-ite (though a Tiger, not a Scot!). They married in the Ogden Temple and together raised four precious children in Bountiful and Farmington. Steve was an uncommonly selfless and boundlessly devoted family man. He had a special ability to calm, to fix, and to teach. Without fanfare or complaint (and often without words), he relentlessly supported and showed up for his family, through the highs and lows. Like the Savior, this gentle giant, this angel of a man, willingly surrendered his life to those he loved.

Steve is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Jane; four children, Melissa, Kristen (Chad), Suzy (Parker), and Dave; nine grandchildren, Preston, David, Sam, Sarah, Spencer, Beau, Henry, Ollie, and Grace; one great-grandchild, Oliver; and two brothers: David (Ann) and Brad (Lisa).

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
