Virginia Biddle Meyer

March 10, 1924 — March 16, 2024

Virginia Biddle Meyer celebrated her 100th Birthday on March 10, 2024, with more than 30 family members and friends. On March 16, she passed away of a heart attack at her home in Ogden, Utah.

Ginnie was born in Ogden to Marjorie Turner Biddle and Walter Scott Biddle.

Throughout her life she was a connector. She was curious about other people. She had a remarkable ability to remember things she learned about them. Correspondence was one of her talents. During her years studying nursing at Stanford, she carried on a correspondence with Joe Meyer who was at the US Military Academy at West Point that led to their marriage in 1948.

Ginnie was rightfully proud that her family had thrived through more than a dozen moves, living in Germany and zig zagging across the country to live in the states of Washington, California, Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah, Kentucky, Texas, Kansas, Virginia, New Mexico, some more than once. Her final move was her 37th. She had a way of turning a house into a home within a few weeks and made sure that the children were enrolled in activities that would help them make friends. Most summers found the family taking a road trip across the country to a new home. She built in educational visits to National Parks and historic sites along the way.

Ginnie and Joe were actively involved in Presbyterian Churches wherever they went. Joe sang in the choir, and both participated in volunteer service, including as Elders and Deacons. She and Joe loved playing duplicate bridge and golf and hosting parties.

By the time Joe retired from the Army, she had visited 48 states. After he passed away in 2005, she convinced her daughters to join her to visit the final two: Alaska on a cruise and a hectic weekend trip to North Dakota. 50 states: check!

Ginnie valued education. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Stanford University in 1948 and her Masters in Health Science/Health Education from San Diego State University in 1978.

Ginnie is survived by her three children, Barbara Meyer MD (Terry Ellard), Tom Meyer PhD (Sam Forlenza PhD), and Carol Meyer, LAc; grandchildren, Miriam Walden (Jonathan), Chris Ellard (Amanda Byrd), and Erin Tucker (David); great-grandchildren, Liam Nickeson, Evra Walden, and Bennett Quaid. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Meyer; granddaughter, Olive Taylor; and brother, Scott Biddle.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Ogden, 880 28th Street. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
