Craig Parker Woods
March 18, 1950 — March 26, 2024
On the morning of March 26th, 2024, Craig Parker Woods was reunited with those who shaped his early years the most.
Craig was a lifelong Ogden resident and was proud of the way his family contributed to the community he loved. As a kid, his favorite Saturdays were spent in the projection booth of the Egyptian Theater with his Grandpa Shurtliff or bluing a gun with his Grandpa Woods.
From a very young age up until just five months ago, he spent countless hours working in the family business, where he learned the intricacies of anodizing and metal finishing from his dad, Jack.
He caught his future wife Renae’s attention in their sophomore seminary class at Ben Lomond when he refused to sing. Working at Fred M. Nye Co. as a teen and driving his vintage MG made him very stylish. Craig and Renae Myers were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 29, 1972. After having to postpone the wedding twice due to Craig’s poor health, the day was especially joyous.
Craig was a girl dad before the phrase became popular. He was eager to help Bekah, Danna, and Annie with any school project or interest they showed. From science fair projects to elaborate art assignments, he was hands on. In many ways, he treated his girls no differently than he would have a boy, teaching them to target shoot and dragging them on work assignments to the church pig farm.
Craig was an engineer by profession and at heart. His proudest work at HAFB was creating and implementing the investment casting program. While this was an enormous accomplishment, his best work was done in his own shop. If he could dream it up, he could make it. His lathes, drill press, and impressive array of tools allowed him to manufacture things no one else could, including a one-of-a-kind leg lamp and the impressive spiral staircase in their home.
He was a renaissance man with a great appreciation for art, literature, drama, and Zydeco music. Trips with Renae to the Shakespeare festival in Cedar City were a highlight of each summer.
Craig is a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings, his favorite being nursery leader.
Craig adored his grandparents, and from their example he became an exceptional grandpa. He was always coming up with projects and adventures to do with his five devoted grandchildren. He loved helping his grandson Luke build a one-of-a-kind chess set made of nuts and bolts that won best of show at the Utah State Fair. From treasure hunts and day trips off the beaten path to projects in the shop (which usually ended in a treat at Zeppe’s or Farr’s), he took great joy in pleasing the grandkids.
Craig is survived by his wife, Renae; daughters Bekah (Marc) Clements, Danna (Brennan) Peterson, and Annie (Clark) Broadbent; his grandchildren Anderson, Parker, Jack, Winn, and Luke; honorary granddaughters Clara and Hazy Zaugg; siblings Rick, Wendy, and Dave Woods; and brother-in-law, Brent Cook. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Marilyn Shurtliff Woods, and two sisters-in-law, Ronda Cook and Tess Woods.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 1st, at 12 noon at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, with a viewing from 11:00-12:00.
