William Thane Ellis “JR”

William Thane Ellis “JR”, our beloved husband, son, father, papa, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully after a valiant battle with multiple health issues on March 27th, 2024.

Thane was born March 16th, 1960, in Ogden Utah to Walter Thane Ellis and Josilyn Ratcliffe.

Thane attended and graduated from Weber High School in 1978. He married Carla Hamblin in May of 1980 and went on to have 4 daughters, they later divorced in 1997. He then married Debra Neilson on April 1st, 2000.

Thane worked multiple jobs including his first job of milking cows at 12, he went on to work for 37 years at Hill Air Force Base where he retired in 2017 as Tool and Parts Supervisor.

Thane had a very full and adventurous life even though it was cut too short. He loved hunting and camping in the mountains with many friends and family. He enjoyed racing horses alongside his Dad. He loved being at rodeos and softball games of his girls. You could catch him watching drag racing on TV and he never missed a game of his beloved Dallas Cowboys.

Thane is survived by his wife of twenty four years, Debra L Ellis, daughters, Crystal Ellis (Jared Weeks), Candess (Jason) Watts, Chalynn (Cody) Akre, Chardai (Randy) Muir, Stepchildren, Jill (Gary) Fiske, Kira (Lynn) Blanch, Braden Neilson, and adopted grandson Oliver Neilson, also by his mother Josilyn R Ellis, sister, JoDeane Ellis, and grandchildren; Aspen Bell, Charlie Muir, Ridgley Muir, Jude Neilson, Kreek Muir, Taft Muir, Wynn Watts and Lachlyn Akre and the mother of his 4 daughters.

He was preceded in death by his father Walter Thane Ellis and his gram, Genevieve Ratcliffe along with his Grandma and Grandpa Ellis along with Uncles and Aunts and many friends.

Our family would like to thank SYMBII Hospice, his CNA Tim, who was very compassionate and greatly helped our dad into his final chapter and his nurse Jennifer.

A viewing will be held April 1, 2024, from 2 PM to 6 PM at Premier Mortuary 5335 1950 W St. Roy Utah 84067. We will be forgoing funeral services for a celebration of life at a later time.

Flowers and condolences can be sent to Premier Mortuary or a donation can be made to the Thane Ellis and Son memorial fund, that is used to procure multiple buckles for the best groomed teams for the America Chariot Racing Association, something our family hold close to our hearts.
