Martha Adele Maclay Ochs

May 2, 2024

Martha Adele Maclay Ochs passed away on April 5, 2024, at her temporary home in Ogden, Utah. As anyone who met her knew, her only real home was Texas. She was born in Dallas, Texas on March 11, 1923, to William and Eleanor Maclay. If ever it could be said that 101 years old is too young to pass, it would be said about grammy. Her legendary laugh, keen wit, stale jokes, and love of all things Texas will be missed by all who know her.

Martha was a lifelong member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dallas. Her love for the Lord and faith in Him was profound. We are certain she is looking down on us, reminding us that “This too shall pass.”

She attended and graduated from Highland Park High School, the Hockaday School and Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She married Edward J Ochs, Jr on February 27, 1945. They had two children. Together they had a distinguished 29-year career with the U.S. Air Force that took them to France, Germany, South Carolina, Colorado, Ohio, New Mexico, and Utah. Upon retirement while stationed at Hill Air Force Base in 1970, they returned to Dallas.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, and brother.

She is survived by her daughter Karen Skeen of Ogden, Utah, and son Greg (Lucy) Ochs of Ajijic, Mexico; four grandchildren Paul (Dora) Skeen, Shannon (Willis) Mickles, Travis (Cassie) Skeen and Tyson (Natalie) Skeen; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were held in Tipton, Missouri on April 27, 2024. A celebration of Martha’s extraordinary life will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at 6350 Combe Road, Ogden Utah, 84403.
