Kathryn Patterson Stark

Kathryn Patterson Stark passed away from natural causes in Roy, UT, on April 30, 2024, age 91. She was born in Roy, July 6, 1932, to John Alexander Patterson and Fern Alberta Nielson.

Kathryn graduated from Weber High and later received an associate degree. There were 9 children in her family, two died in infancy. Kate was the last surviving of the seven sisters who reached adulthood. The Patterson sisters, Fern, Faun, Kate, Betty, Mary, June, and Fae were raised in Roy. Her Dad taught his girls how to work. Her Mom taught them domestic skills, handiwork, and piano.

On July 13, 1956, she married Jack Stark in Elko, NV. Jack affectionally called her “KP.” They were soulmates. He loved to dance with KP in the kitchen. They shared a life of love and adventure.

Kathryn worked in the insurance industry. Jack worked as a truck driver. They worked hard so they could play hard. They loved to travel. Jack made sure travels often ended up at a racetrack.

Kathryn’s hobbies included crocheting, knitting, quilting and embroidering. She loved to read. Kate was proud of her pioneer roots and enjoyed her 47 years as a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

She has been described as “one of a kind.” Her life was filled with family, work and faith. Kate connected with young people including her nieces and nephews. She reached out with a word of encouragement, a pat on the back or a kick in the pants, always wanting the best for them. Kathryn was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed teaching and serving in ward callings.

A year after Jack died, they were sealed in the Bountiful Temple. In 2014, Kathryn was called as a Temple worker. This calling became a highlight of her life.

Aunt Kate leaves behind family members including numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. They all loved her. Jack and Kate had good friends. The family extends a special salute to Randy and Kathy Carter for providing love and support to Kathryn and Jack over the years.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 S. 1900 W. A viewing will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Interment, Roy Cemetery.
