Wanda Jean McGary (Brechbiel)

Wanda Jean McGary (Brechbiel), age 79, of West Haven, Utah passed away suddenly on Monday April 29, 2024, in the comfort of her own home. Born on September 15, 1944, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Harvey F. Brechbiel Jr. and Beulah Ruth Brechbiel (Tolbert).

Wanda was a graduate of Fairfax High School (Virginia) in 1961. She went on to graduate from Brigham Young University in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. While attending BYU she met the love of her life, Alvin McGary. Wanda and Al were married, sealed for time and all eternity, on June 5, 1964, in the LDS Idaho Falls Temple, Idaho. They started their family in Utah, lived for some years in Virginia, and then moved to Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Wanda, Al and their family moved to Leominster MA. They lived in Massachusetts for 42 years.

Wanda was an Elementary School teacher for many years in the Shrewsbury MA Public School System and then worked for several years in Customer Service at the Searstown Mall in Leominster, MA. Wanda and Al are devout members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints. Wanda loved being a temple worker at the Boston, MA LDS temple as well as working together with Al as Service Missionaries for the Bishop’s Storehouse in Worcester, MA. Upon their retirement, Wanda and Al returned to their roots in Utah, settling in West Haven, Utah.

Wanda was an avid Red Sox fan and never missed a game, whether it was on TV, or at Fenway Park. In her retirement years Wanda and Alvin enjoyed traveling around the world exploring Alaska, Aruba, Panama Canal and Hawaii.

Wanda is survived by her husband Alvin McGary, her three children, Deborah Gouveia and her husband Keith of Wakefield Massachusetts, Lisa Egbert and her husband Robert of Clinton Utah, and Craig McGary and his wife Jennifer of Beverly Massachusetts. Wanda was a loving Grandmother to her 10 Grandchildren (Andrew, Austin, Katelyn, Morgan, Anthony, Garrett, Keira, Eric, (Alexa and Molly) and was very proud of her two Great Grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Saturday May 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lindquist’s Syracuse Mortuary, 869 S. 2000 W., Syracuse, Utah. Family and friends may visit Friday May 10, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment-West Haven Utah Cemetery.
