Glen Robert Campbell

Glen Robert Campbell passed peacefully in his sleep May 4th, 2024, from complications of aging. He was in his 96th year of being an outstanding husband, father, and friend. Glen could talk to anyone and loved telling his stories. Glen was born June 30th, 1928 in Ogden, Utah, to James Alonzo and Pearl Sawyer Campbell and raised on the family’s cattle ranch in Clear Creek, Utah, on the north slope of the Raft River Range.
Glen attended grades 1 to 8 in a one room school house and was taught by his older sister. He then moved to Logan, Utah to attend Logan High school. He lived with his brother-in-law and sister while milking their dairy cows, morning, and night, for his room and board. He graduated in 1947 and joined the US Airforce.
At around that time, Glen met his future bride Rose Valoy Thomas when she caught his eye while waiting tables at a restaurant in Brigham City. They married while he was still in the Airforce. After leaving the Airforce Glen attended Weber State Junior College, where he earned an associate’s degree.
Glen’s education allowed him to advance into professional positions at Hill Airforce Base, where he worked for over 30 years. At one point advancing to the highest civilian security clearance on the base.
While working at Hill, Glen and Valoy settled down in Washinton Terrace to raise 5 children. Glen was always active in the community. He was on the Planning Commission, volunteered with the JCs, and was a Boy Scout leader for a short time. On base he helped organize the Hill Rod and Gun Club.
After Valoy passed away in 2000, he tried being a bachelor for a while, but just was not happy with life. He struck up a deeper relationship with a longtime friend and bowling partner, Diane Andersen. Glen fell in love with her and her family. That brought more brothers and sisters in and made our lives that much richer. Diane passed away in 2020.
His hobbies included camping, fishing, hunting, boating and softball. He and Glen Cherry were the best fast pitch softball pitchers in northern Utah.
Glen was known as a kind and generous person. You would be hard pressed to find someone with a differing opinion. He made friends easily and seemed to fit in at any sort of gathering.
