Edward H. Harbertson Jr.

May 24, 2024

February 1, 1946 — May 17, 2024

The world has lost one of its last good old boys. Ed passed away in his home surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer.

Ed was born in Ogden, UT, February 1st 1946 to Edward Sr. and Evelyn Olsen Harbertson. The third of four children. He had many nicknames, Eddie, Ed, Harv, Butch, Steady, Fast Eddie. But, of all the things he was called, Dad and Grandpa were his most cherished.

Hard work was instilled at a young age and lead to a lifetime of many business ventures and success.

Ed met his lifelong partner and loving wife, Sonya Douglas, in high school and together they raised three amazing children: Guy, Stacey and Doug.

As an entrepreneur, his empire was built. Owning a hose shop, salvage yard, construction company, a pawn shop and rental properties, success followed. He was very proud of his business.

Plain City/ Warren ended up being home and life on the family property flourished. Ed loved farming and raising various livestock animals and crops, making sure the irrigation was always taken care of.

He would do anything for anyone, especially family. And if you were a person down on your luck or in need, you could count on him to recognize that and do what he could to help.

Most of his time spent was at the shop or offices of his businesses and if he wasn’t there, you could find him at a slot machine in Wendover or at the family cabin in Manila. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors.

Eddie had a knack for telling stories (or bullshitting) depending on who you asked. From giving a hitchhiking Merle Haggard a ride in Wyoming to partying with the Hells Angels, he had done it all. We’re now realizing how lucky we are to have been able to listen to those stories of past times. He truly lived life to the fullest and was able to do and see a lot in his lifetime.

Eddie will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His passing has left a hole in our hearts that will never be mended but we are lucky to have had him in our lives and for the memories that will last a lifetime.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sr. and Evelyn Harbertson, his brother Guy G. Harbertson, his wife Sonya Douglas Harbertson, and great grandson Maddux Mikesell.

He is survived by his children Guy (Karen) Harbertson, Stacey (Cliff) Adams and Doug (Debbie) Harbertson. Sisters Sharyl McHugh and Karen Smith. Nine grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren with one on the way.

Per his request, no services will be held.

The family would like to thank Melissa with Canyon Home Care and Hospice as well as the many family and friends who have reached out in this time of sorrow. In lieu of flowers, please spend time with your family and ask them to share stories of their past.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com.
