Janice Dawn Brown
Janice Dawn Brown, 77, returned to her Heavenly Father on Friday, November 8, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.
Janice was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, on March 23, 1947, to Charles William (Charlie) and Afton Lorraine Crane. She was the oldest of five children. In her younger years, she learned to play the violin. She continued to nurture her talent by joining the orchestra in both middle and high school. She went to Bickel Grade School, O’Leary Middle School, and Twin Falls High School where she graduated in May of 1964. Shortly after graduating, she worked at the hospital as a ward clerk at the nurses’ station. As a child, Janice’s cousins, Connie and Brenda, lived next door. Every summer, Janice would spearhead a large production whether a circus or play. This was not just a show for the family but would turn into entertainment for the entire neighborhood. Part of this show always included the girls dressing up as hula dancers and dancing. Her family can attest that her love of Hawaii and planning elaborate parties carried into her older years.
Janice met the love of her life, Virl Albert Brown, in February of 1965. For their first date, Virl and her future in-laws picked her up to take her to Sizzler. The Browns tagged along to pay as a birthday treat for Virl. This freed up his money to bring her one of her absolute favorite flowers, yellow roses. Excited to start their new life together, the two were married in the Logan, Utah, Temple on April 14, 1967.
Janice and Virl couldn’t wait to start a family of their own, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren meant the world to them. The greatest legacy she leaves behind is her family.
Though Janice adored being a mom, her favorite role changed to being a grandma. She thrived on planning times for family to be together as she treasured her time with her grandkids. She loved being their grandma, never failing to plan intricate scavenger hunts from Tawny or serving Rudolph for Christmas dinner each year.
Janice was also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, devoting her time and energy to various callings in the church.
Everyone who knew Janice knew how much she loved planning parties and functions. It was said that if she lived in Hollywood, she would have been a millionaire. She was extremely creative and constantly had a variety of projects in place.
Janice will always be remembered for her love towards all and the way that she was constantly happy. We’ll always imagine hearing her say, “Love ya” one more time. We couldn’t have asked for a better wife, sister, mother, grandma, or great-grandma and will miss her every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Afton Crane and siblings Alan Crane and LeAnna Cahoon. She is survived by her husband Virl, siblings Chick (Virginia) Crane and Caren (Brent) Gines, children Chad (Jennifer), Jennifer Brown (Bob), Jared (Amanda), Hilary Perez (Damon), Colette (Casey) McKissen, Nicki (Jesse) Campbell, Casey (Erin), foster children Lyman (Margaret) Benally and Ryan Elson, 34 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2335 North 4350 West, Plain City, Utah.
Viewings will be held at the church on Friday, November 15, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 pm and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 am, prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at the Plain City Cemetery.
Special thanks to nurse Sarah and CNA Cami for all the tender, loving care given to our mom in her time of need.
