Gertrude “Gertie” Scheidecker

1944 – 2024
Gertrude “Gertie” Louise Green Scheidecker, 79, died on September 7, 2024. She was born in Los Angeles on December 29, 1944 to Herman R. and Mildred Green. She had one brother, Glen Green. She was raised in and lived as an adult in Downey, California, later moving to Utah.
She married Thomas Scheidecker in 1965. They were later divorced. In 1966 she became a deputy sheriff for Los Angeles County as an early groundbreaker being a woman in law enforcement. Gertie was a LA bad b***h with a fantastic sense of humor, who broke barriers at the time in a man’s world. She retired after 31 years. Once retired, she worked for Ogden PD as a clerk.
Gertie had two children, Dianna Roddom and Thomas C. Scheidecker. My mom was one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. She always kept everyone laughing till the end. We had the best adventures. Getting lost a little, but always laughing. Mom absolutely loved going to the movies and dining out. She learned how to ski at 40. She also kissed the singer Tom Jones in Las Vegas! What’s new pussycat!
Gertie lived an amazing life, and we are so proud of her for the accomplishments she achieved and the history she experienced in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
She is survived by Dianna and John Roddom, Alex and Laura Rush, Jeff Schurtz and Julia Jane Roddom. She was preceded in death by her son Thomas Scheidecker, her parents, Herman and Mildred Green, brother Glen Green and nephew Nickolas Green and niece Jasmine Green
