Dolores “Dee” Hunter
1930 — 2024
Dolores “Dee” Hunter, was born June 8, 1930, in Ogden, Utah, and passed through the veil into eternity September 12, 2024, in Ogden Utah at the age of 94. Dee was the daughter of William John Wever III and Ada McArthur. She had three brothers: Eugene McArthur Dailey, William “Bill” John Weaver (Joyce), and S. Wayne Miller (Dixie). She was preceded in death by her daughter Sherry and brother Eugene.
After attending Ogden City Schools, she transferred to Weber High School where she met Taul Faro Greer, whom she married on April 11, 1948, in Las Vegas, Nevada, they later divorced. Dee and Taul had four children: Sherry, Michael F. (Shannon), Billy Gene (Diane), and Richard Bruce. After Sherry’s premature death, Dee raised her sons, Scott Anthony and Robert Brett Greer. She leaves three living children, twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
In 1963, Dee met Gary L. Hunter at a baseball game in Ogden. Gary was serving in the U.S. Air Force at Hill Air Force Base when they were married on November 3, 1963, they later divorced. During their marriage, the family moved to Okinawa, Japan, and later transfers included South Dakota, Utah, California, and Montana. Dee achieved her GED to improve her family’s lives and opportunities. She was employed by the civil service at the various Air Bases wherever they were stationed, as an award-winning publication administrator, a position she held until she retired.
As a young woman, Dee enjoyed many outdoor activities, such as water skiing and camping. She also developed a taste and talent for golfing. You could count on Dee to be a sparkling addition to any social occasion – she loved to kick up her heels and dance!
The most important thing for Delores was her family, and she was especially proud of their accomplishments. She made sure that there were always pets around the house for the kids to be responsible for. There were dogs, cats, chickens and even “Flower” the skunk.
Her love for the family never wavered and she was always ready to protect, help and encourage them. Her love for all sports and family really showed in the way she was always everyone’s biggest fan as she made a point to go to as many of their events as possible.
She had a special loving relationship with her grandchildren and great grandchildren as they would visit or talk to her on the phone. She would always share and brag about what they were doing and where they were. Dee was not only concerned and involved with just her own relatives, but she played an important role in the lives of several teenagers whom she took under her wing and treated like her own.
Dee loved to read and would discuss books with anyone that would listen to her. She loved and cherished her friends and family, who in turn, loved and cherished her. She leaves precious memories and inspiration, not only for all of us, but also for future generations.
We will celebrate her life on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, 12:30 pm at Mt. Green Cemetery, behind the church building. A viewing will be prior to graveside 11am – 12pm at Mt. Green LDS church, 5378 West Old Hwy Road.
