Jean Sutherland

On March 30, 2025, Jean Sutherland passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 14, 1937, to Eugene and June Stanger in Ogden, Utah. She was the eldest of four children.

Jean was a proud graduate of Ben Lomond High School, where she was part of the first class to attend all three years, graduating in June of 1956. She loved dancing and was a “jitterbugger” during high school and was considered a great dancer by her peers.

Following high school, Jean attended Weber College before beginning her career. She worked at Payless Appliance while attending school. It was during this time that Jean was introduced to the love of her life Kent by Frank Donoveil. Kent was working alongside his brother, Walt, doing appliance repairs.

Jean and Kent dated for two years before being married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple in 1959. They made their home in Ogden, Utah, purchasing their first house in 1961.

Jean was a devoted mother to four sons: Kyle (born 1963), Blair (born 1965), Von (born 1966), and Greg (born 1970). While raising her boys, Jean ran a nursery school from home from 1969-1979.

Jean was a woman of strong faith and actively involved in her church community. She served as Relief Society President, Primary President, and Young Women President. She also served in the Stake Primary Presidency for 6 years and gospel doctrine teacher for 8 years.

A talented musician, Jean instilled a love of music in her children, with Greg having the special opportunity to sing at a General Conference. Her two oldest sons shared her musical talents, each of them played several instruments and had a band in high school.

Jean had a variety of interests and talents. She enjoyed scrapbooking, sewing, and had a keen interest in interior design.

In the early 1980s, she worked with handicapped children at Gramercy Elementary, demonstrating her compassionate and caring nature. She also worked at Wecker Shoes from 1986 to 1995.

In 1995, Kent and Jean were able to serve a full-time mission at Temple Square at the Salt Lake Temple. They also served a one-year inter-city mission in Ogden at The Manor on 30th street.

Jean will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her dedication to her faith, and her service to others. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Kent and her oldest son, Kyle. She is survived by three of her boys, Blair (Ginger), Von (Staci), Greg (Tina), Kyle’s wife Jill, and 4 grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2025 from 6 – 8 PM at Myers Mortuary in Ogden. Funeral services will be held on April 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the North Ogden 6th Ward (770 E 2100 N. North Ogden).
