Vernon Wade East

Apr 21, 2025

May 24, 1925 – April 17, 2025

Together again!

Vernon Wade East, son of Alvin David and Louise Wade East, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Vernon was born on May 24, 1925, in Warren, Utah and grew up working on the family farm. He attended Weber County Schools and graduated from Weber High School. In school Vernon met his sweetheart, Joyce Knight of Plain City. They were married on February 17, 1943. Together they had two sons, Jeffrey and Jimmy, and made their home in Plain City.

Throughout his life, Vernon was very active working on the family farms in Warren and Plain City. He also worked at Pillsbury, General Mills, State of Utah, and retired from the Defense Depot Ogden.

Vernon’s family was his pride and joy. He enjoyed having his two sons, Jeff (Marveda) and Jimmy (Kathie), and his grandchildren, living close by in Plain City. Vernon and Joyce’s family legacy includes six grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren with more on the way, and the spouses of his grandchildren.

Vernon enjoyed tending to the farm and cows, visiting with friends, and taking scenic drives around Northern Utah. Vernon was best found driving in a pickup truck around Plain City, stocked with farm supplies, and accompanied by a family member. He always enjoyed having a little slice of every dessert on his plate and watching all sporting events on TV.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed visits from his home teachers. At 99.9 years old, Plain City’s oldest resident, Vernon’s mind was sharp, and he remembered names and life details of those with whom he interacted.

Vernon was preceded in death by his loving companion Joyce, daughter-in-law Marveda, both his parents, and his three siblings Emmett East, Dale East, and Roma Dominguez.

At the close of any gathering Joyce would call out, “Come on, Vernon. Let’s go.” And then Vernon would reply, “well, I guess I gotta go.” We are thrilled that Joyce has called him home and they are finally together again.

Graveside services will be held at 11am on Wednesday April 23, 2025, at the Plain City Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, April 22 from 6-8pm at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah and Wednesday, April 23 from 10-10:45am at the Plain City 4th Ward church, 4350 W 2336 N, Plain City, Utah.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents at Seasons Assisted Living in Farr West for taking care of Vernon at his home away from home.

In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the charity of your choice.
