Encinitas — Haven Simmons, 78, of Encinitas, CA, peacefully passed away surrounded by family. He was born on February 5, 1947, in Ogden, UT, to Frank James and Cora Ruth Simmons, the eldest of seven children.

Haven was raised in Roy, UT, and graduated from Weber High School in 1965.

He served in the Vietnam War in the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army. Upon returning home, he married Diana Ydo in 1969.

Haven started bagging groceries at Smith’s Food and Drug in 1971 in Logan, UT and spent the next 30 years working his way up to Retail Operations Director. He played a key role in the company’s expansion across the western US and settled in CA in 1991. Haven retired early to spend more time with his greatest joy–his family.

He and Diana raised three children, Licia, Lesley (Christian) Dick, and Brett. Haven was a proud, devoted grandfather to Nolan, Jordan, and Brooklynn. In retirement, he found joy golfing with friends and gardening.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Diana; his children and grandchildren; his siblings, Melanie (Floyd) Asher, Annette (Randy) Ashburn, Lanny (Wendy) Simmons, Dee (Cindy) Simmons, and JaNae (Kyle) Mann; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bart.

Haven was a man of quiet strength, generous spirit and enduring love for those around him. He presence was a steady source of comfort, kindness, and wisdom. Haven will be deeply missed and warmly remembered by the many whose lives he touched.

His memory will be honored at a Celebration of Life on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 2 pm to 5 pm at The Monarch, 455 25th Street, Ogden, UT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Haven’s memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research [give.michaeljfox.org] to help others facing the same challenges Haven courageously endured.
