Shirley Irene Jacobs Frecker

Aug 4, 2025

March 17, 1933 — July 25, 2025

Shirley Irene Jacobs Frecker, loving mother, grandmother, and dear friend, died at her home on July 25, 2025, at the age of 92.

Born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1933, in Ogden, Utah, Shirley was the third child of Eldred Madsen Jacobs and Edith Grundy Jacobs. After her parents’ divorce, her mother married Charles “Bud” Johnson, whom she loved dearly. Shirley often shared fond memories of her childhood living next to her beloved Grandma Grundy.

On August 4, 1950, Shirley married her sweetheart, Andrew “Andy” Leroy Frecker. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. Soon after their marriage, Andy enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for a 3-year assignment, serving one year in Cheyenne, Wyoming, one year in the Korean War, and one year in Albuquerque, New Mexico. During the year Andy was in Korea, Shirley cared for their two young children alone.

Shirley and Andy were blessed with six children. Her family was her greatest joy, and she loved them deeply, taking immense pride in them.

Music was a significant part of Shirley’s life. From a young age, she dreamed of singing and dancing. Her beautiful voice touched many lives. She sang in a trio with her dear friend Jeniel Stephens and LaRee Felt. She made it a tradition to call each of her children and grandchildren to sing “Happy Birthday” every year without fail.

Shirley served faithfully in numerous callings as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, her favorites being Primary and Ward Chorister. After Andy’s passing, Shirley served a mission in Santa Rosa, California. She often recounted with pride how she navigated California’s busy freeways.

For many years, she worked at The Family Store and Willis Clothing, where her gift for connecting with people truly sparkled.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Debra Day, son, Andrew Kent Frecker, grandson, Michael Day, sister, Lillian Walker, and brother, Gerald Jacobs.

She is survived by her daughters, Chris (Gene) Brownson, Arlene (Ken) Brewer, Darlene (Kim) Robinson, and Heidi (Joe) Laing; her daughter-in-law, Pam Frecker; sister, Carol Simonsen; sister-in-law, Carma Jacobs; half-sister, Bonnie Jensen; 20 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her love and legacy.

Shirley’s favorite expression, “I just love life,” reflected her boundless gratitude and optimism. Each morning, she gave thanks for another day with her family. Known for her radiant smile, warm hugs, and heartfelt “I love you,” Shirley was a beacon of light to all who knew her.

We would like to thank the women Shirley walked with every morning and her neighbors who always kept an eye on her and cared for her deeply.
