Brent Lamar Growcock

Aug 12, 2025

Brent Lamar Growcock, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on August 7, 2025, in Farmington, Utah.

He was best known for his steadfast work ethic, unending generosity, dedication to family and a sharp sense of humor.

Brent was born on February 15, 1940 in Murray, Utah. He was the first of four children born to Wayne and Dorothy Growcock. He spent his younger years in areas around Murray and Midvale, before moving as a teenager with his family to Green River, Utah.

After a long courtship, Brent married his eternal sweetheart, Sharlene Bigelow, on January 26, 1962, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He became a devoted husband and good provider who always put his wife and family first.

Brent and Sharlene had four sons, Kim, Bryan, Troy and Shawn. They started their long life together in northern Utah, eventually settling in North Ogden. They purchased their first home in the Coldwater subdivision.

This home — nestled at the foot of towering Ben Lomond Mountain — would be the base for the family until all children were raised and gone. The whole family formed many close relationships with neighbors and church members that lasted into the later years of Brent and Sharlene’s lives.

Among Brent and Sharlene’s favorite pastimes were going out to dinner, attending shows or plays and taking long, winding road trips through Utah and surrounding states. They seemed most at home outside the city in places resembling areas where they grew up, in southeastern Utah.

Brent was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and prioritized his faith and service. He held various callings over the years, many in the North Ogden 8th Ward. Among them were Executive Secretary, Ward Clerk and Ward Finance Clerk. He also published the Ward Bulletin for many years.

Brent put a high value on personal integrity and served as an outstanding example to his ever-expanding family. His honorable and exemplary legacy will forever guide all of those touched by his life.

Brent was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne David Doxey Growcock and Dorothy Ruth Dumas, and his siblings, Iris Morton, Anthony Wayne Growcock and Colleen Ruth Growcock.

He is survived by his children, Kim, Bryan, Troy and Shawn, 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 15 at 11 am, at the North Ogden 6th Ward chapel, 770 East 2100 North. A viewing will precede the funeral from 9:30 to 10:45.

A graveside ceremony will be held on Saturday August 16 at 12 pm, before the burial at Elgin Cemetery in Green River, Utah. Services entrusted to Myers Mortuary.

Starting at $4.32/week.
