Connie Huggins

Aug 22, 2025

My name is Connie Huggins (Constance Reid Huggins). I was born on May 21, 1928, in New York City, New York to a music student at NYU and his wife. My parents moved to Helper, Utah when I was about school-aged. I grew up in Utah, married, and had three daughters: Wendy Dokos (husband Joseph Quintana), Gaye Hogge and Rebecca(Becky) (husband Kimball) Hale.

I had a lot of ambition; I wanted to be an architect, but wasn’t able to afford the education. At one point I went to work for a modular home company, and used my interest and intuition to work with architects and designers. I paid for my own piano lessons as a teen, ended up writing music, performing with the Ogden Choral, and singing vocal solos for church and other groups. At Weber State I performed in opera and musicals, and co-wrote and directed a musical about the beginning of the LDS Primary program, also at Weber State. I enjoyed writing poetry, for friends, family, and for publication. I composed solo and choral music, which I performed and conducted, and had some published.

I always enjoyed sewing, making clothing for myself and my daughters, up to and including their wedding dresses. I also became an avid quilter. I have always appreciated good literature, and taught the Relief Society Cultural Refinement class in my Ogden ward for many years. Never a dull moment! I have always been a lady – well dressed, well spoken, polite, and proper. Unless you take me to a nice restaurant and I get my “sipper” into the bottom of my Dr. Pepper!

I had ancestors from Scotland who came to Utah under difficult conditions, and I am proud of my pioneer heritage, joining the Daughters of Utah Pioneers in my later years.

I decided to donate my 96 year old body to the University of Utah Medical Science Dept. upon my death on July 31, 2024; so there was no formal funeral service.

My little dog Joey, was very kindly taken in by my dearest friend and traveling companion Chick (Lisa Mary) Barnes of Huntsville, Utah to lovingly live out the remaining years of his life.

Instead of a big, showy funeral, my family met together to look at pictures, listen to recordings of me playing the piano, tell stories, and eat good food. It was just what I would have wanted – all my family, together and happy.

Starting at $4.32/week.
