Richard David Candland, Sr.

On November 27, 2025, Richard David Candland, Sr. was called to Heaven. Richard was the son Hayden and Gladys Candland, lifelong residents of Utah.

Richard was also a lifelong resident of Weber County, Utah. Richard had one brother, Dean Candland, who resides in Logan, Utah.

Richard married Phyllis Joanne Brady on July 25, 1961, and was married for 62 years before Phyllis preceded him in death last year. Richard had five children, Richard “David” Candland, Jr. (Cynthia Osborne-Candland) who both preceded him in death, Shellie D. McDowell (Gregory J. McDowell), Danny R. Candland (Karla J. Thompson-Candland), Chad D. Candland, and Brad D. Candland. Richard had 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Richard spent two years serving in the U.S. Navy. He was later employed at Meadow Gold Dairy, Cream-o-Weber Dairy, Stock Builders, Oborn Trucking, and as a crossing guard in North Ogden, Utah.

Richard loved hunting, fishing, ice fishing, golf, keeping a manicured yard, and his two dogs, Miley and Bandit. He also enjoyed Bud Light beer.

Richard was blessed by the kindness and generosity of his son, Danny Candland, who also opened his home to Richard to provide loving care until the end. The family also wishes to thank two hospice nurses, Jennifer Hansen and Tim Gardewine, who also assisted greatly in keeping Richard comfortable.

A graveside service will be conducted on December 9, 2025, at 11 a.m. for those wishing to pay their respects. The cemetery is Myers Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 N. Monroe Blvd, Ogden, UT. Services entrusted to Myers Mortuary in Ogden.
