Jan Vandenberg Taylor
Jan Vandenberg Taylor
July 29, 1954 ~ December 13, 2025
Jan Vandenberg Taylor, 71, of Ogden, Utah, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Stonehenge Rehabilitation Center in South Ogden, Utah, where she was courageously battling lung cancer while also facing other health complications.
Born on July 20, 1954, in Ogden, Utah, Jan lived a life defined by unconditional love and acceptance, generosity to others, and deep devotion to family. If you were lucky enough to know Jan, you felt that love immediately. She was bubbly, playful, and relentlessly positive, putting a smile on the faces of anyone in her orbit. Jan was generous to a fault, whether volunteering for the Red Cross, passing out food to the homeless or anonymously paying the dinner tab of lonely people in restaurants. She sought out ways to spread joy as often as she could.
Jan built a long and successful career in computer programming, advancing through positions because of her curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies, most of which were self-taught. She worked as a Developer/Operations Manager at Weber School District for 16 years, from 1982 to 1998. She then took a leap from a secure government job to a start-up company, where she excelled as a Solutions Analyst at Vision Solutions/Syncsort, Inc. for the next 22 years, from 1998 to 2020. After retiring in 2020, Jan devoted her time to service and volunteered, part-time, with the American Red Cross, as a blood ambassador, beginning in January 2025. She also volunteered with the Armed Forces Disaster Action Team; her most recent mission was to set up shelter food supplies for the Willard Peak fire.
Jan cherished her neighbors, family, and friends. She lived in a close-knit neighborhood where everyone watched over one another and gathered often, relationships she truly treasured. Jan was also an incredibly proud mother, frequently bragging about every accomplishment of her children, big and small, to anyone who would listen. She loved them unconditionally. She also deeply adored her husband of 23 years, Marvin Taylor, and together they truly enjoyed life to the fullest. Her friendships were long-lasting and they all meant the world to Jan.
Jan loved crocheting, knitting, and quilting gifts for anyone she knew who was having a baby or getting married. She was exceptionally talented and delighted in customizing handmade gifts for others. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping and riding her side-by-side with Marv, often taking multi-day ATV trips together. In retirement, she kept her mind active with puzzles, Sudoku, and reading, and enjoyed working in her yard.
Jan Taylor is survived by her husband, Marvin Taylor; children, Theresa (Eric) Jensen, Brian Bybee, and Sandra (Troy) Leavitt; grandson, Dane Bybee; and sisters, Ann (Mike) Tarancon and Amy (Stanley) Epps, and Connie V Edmison (Dee). She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Maureen Vandenberg; and brothers, Dee and Curt Vandenberg.
A Celebration of Life will take place in Spring/Summer 2026.
Those wishing to honor Jan’s memory may do so by donating to the American Red Cross or by anonymously paying for a stranger’s meal.
