Raymond Clark Gorman
December 17, 1935 – December 23, 2025
Raymond Clark Gorman passed away peacefully at his home on December 23, 2025, at the age of 90. Dad’s goal was 100 because he loved life so much but 90 is quite an accomplishment. Ray was born on December 17, 1935, in Hamilton, Ohio to Cecil and Edna Gorman. Ray was the third of four boys. His early years were filled with simple joys: family dinners around the radio, swimming in the Miami River, and a love for his loyal German Shepherd, Rusty. Though his childhood was marked by challenges and change, it instilled in him resilience, independence, and a lifelong appreciation for family.
At eighteen, Ray enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he trained as a radio operator and flew missions aboard B-29s. While stationed at Hill Air Force Base in Utah, he met the love of his life, Ruth Pettingill. The two married in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1956, beginning a 44-year journey together until her passing. Their early years were lean, but full of love. Ray often recalled that even Spam dinners felt like feasts when shared with Ruth.
After his service, Ray began a long career with Thiokol Corporation, where he rose to become Manager of Quality Control before retiring in 1997. He survived a devastating plant explosion in 1965, an event that shaped his outlook on life and deepened his faith in life after death.
Ray and Ruth were blessed with three children, Greg, Tommy (who died at birth) and Joni.
Their family grew over the years to include six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, each one a source of pride and joy.
He loved golf, softball, and swimming, and he never lost the curiosity and determination that had carried him through childhood. Friends and colleagues remember his work ethic, humor, and the way he always made others feel welcome. Above all, he treasured life with family.
Ray considered his life to be full and blessed. He now looks forward to being reunited with Ruth, Tommy and other loved ones who have gone before him. For those he leaves behind, his absence will only be temporary.
He is survived by his children Greg and Joni (Jerold) Lee, six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank George Xanos for his weekly visits. Dad brightened up whenever George was around. The wonderful ladies from Atlas Hospice that took care of him and the Shadow Ridge Ward for their love and friendships.
