Masen Douglas Hicks

Dec 30, 2025

January 13, 1986 - December 25, 2025

Masen Douglas Hicks accidentally lost his long and hard-fought journey toward recovery on December 25, 2025 while at home. He was 39 years old. Masen was born in Ogden, Utah to Mikel Curtis Hicks and Deean Belliston Hicks. His family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden passing.

Masen came into this world, the youngest of four boys. As a child, Masen loved to stay busy with anything outside. He had an incredible imagination and a wildly creative personality. As a family, they spent months together building their family home, which taught Masen many lifelong skills and how to work hard. He used this vast array of skills throughout his life in both his home life and career.

Masen attended Layton High School and graduated in 2004. Masen also attended West Valley Fire Academy graduating in 2013 and earning his certifications in Firefighting and Advanced EMT. He also worked hard to earn and maintain a Class A CDL and worked in both fields, including Morgan City Fire earning team rescue awards. He also earned his Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Certification in 2002 and graduated from LDS Seminary in 2004.

Masen married his high school sweetheart in May 2007 and over the course of 9 years of marriage they brought four beautiful children into the world. They later divorced in 2016 but they both focused on their children and loved them dearly. He enjoyed and excelled in both soccer and swimming. Masen’s children were his whole world and no matter what was going on in it, they were always on his mind.

Masen had an impressive natural talent for working with ceramics, writing poetry and always knew how to dream big. He had a crazy sense of humor and could fill any quiet space with laughter and silliness. He had big dreams and hobbies including rebuilding old mustangs with his parents and brothers, focusing on rebuilding his Toyota T100, building massive Lego sets with his kids, strumming his guitar or teaching them how to love all things outdoors, especially at his family property near Whitney Reservoir. He loved campfires with his kids and shared his love of the outdoors with them. If they were together this is where you would find them, outside making s’mores. He poured his whole self into everything that was important to him, but his children were his passion. He will be greatly missed by those that love him.

He had dreams of being a published author and speaker to hopefully help those who were also struggling with addiction. He always took the opportunity to help those around him any way he could.

Masen is survived by his four children; Kyln, Kira, Logan & Harlie (Kaysville), his mother Deean Hicks (Layton), his brothers Mikel & Tierza (Marriot-Slaterville), Matt & Alexis (Eagle Mountain), Miles & Shandee (Layton) along with many nieces and nephews.

Masen was preceded in death by his father, Mikel Hicks, his nephew Hudson and his grandparents.
