Thomas LaMonte (Monte) Criddle

March 30, 1936 — February 7, 2025
Monte Criddle, 88, of Brigham City, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025. He was born on March 30, 1936, in Pocatello, Idaho. The second child of Thomas Y. Criddle and Gayle Varell Thompson.
He attended the Downey, Idaho elementary and high school and Idaho State College.
Monte grew up doing the usual farm chores, milking and herding cows, herding sheep, feeding livestock, harvesting hay and grain, and caring for the vegetable gardens.
On June 2, 1956, he married the love of his life, Caroline Stephens, in Arimo, Idaho, and in 1960 they were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were married for 68 wonderful years. The first year of their marriage, they lived in 11 places in Idaho when he was an electrician with the Signal Department of the Union Pacific Railroad; two homes in Pocatello, Idaho, the second year of marriage; then 3 homes in 8 years in Ogden, Utah. In 1966, they moved their family to Brigham City, as he was now working at Thiokol, where they have remained for the last 58 years!
Monte worked for the Gail and Margaret Boam Ranch in Cambridge, Idaho during his high school years. When his parents and sisters moved to Salmon Idaho, he then lived at Gail and Margaret’s home the last part of his senior year of high school.
The Summer of 1954, he worked for the Salmon Idaho Forest Service, now called Salmon-Challis National Forest Service, out of the Yellow Jacket Ranger Station as a forest fire watchman on a trail clear and cleanup crew of two and lived in a watch tower for the Summers.
He started college at Idaho State in Pocatello in September 1954, with a major in Civil Engineering.
On March 30, 1955, Monte went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad Signal Department. In October of 1958, he was the youngest in age of a permanent signal maintenance employee on the Utah and Idaho division. His maintenance section was from Clearfield to Hot Springs, at Ogden, Utah.
On January 1, 1961, he went to work for Thiokol Corporation as an electrician and retired in June of 1999, as a facility shift engineer.
Monte was a Semi Pro Rodeo Cowboy, he also enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing trips. He even went moose hunting in Canada one year with his father, uncle, and his uncle’s three friends. He was a star player in football, basketball, and baseball through high school and into college.
He is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Cub Scout Leader, and Scout Master, in four different wards. He was always willing to serve the neighbors and others requesting electrical help–only charging for parts, he would not accept payment for labor. These jobs included rewiring entire homes.
The family would like to give special thanks to all the special care provided by so many wonderful family, friends, neighbors, professional care givers, and the 13th Ward in the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Monte is survived by his dear wife: Caroline Stephens Criddle; children: Cindy Leigh (Rich) Briggs, Annette Joy (Steve) Shelton, Diane Rae (Dean) Bodily, and Bret Thomas Criddle; 13 grandchildren;18 great- grandchildren, with one on the way; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
