David A. Thomas

Jul 3, 2025

May 15, 1947 - June 26, 2025

David A. Thomas, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, veteran, and friend, passed away on June 26, 2025, at the age of 78, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Clearfield, Utah, David was the youngest of three children and remained devoted to family all his life. He found joy in westerns, baseball cards, and spending time with loved ones, simple passions that brought lasting happiness.

On May, 1, 1969, David married Elaine, the love of his life in the Salt Lake City Temple. Their 56-year marriage was rooted in faith, devotion, and a deep love for family.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 36 years, including a post-9/11 activation, and worked 38 years as a civilian at Defense Depot Ogden and Hill Air Force Base, including a treasured assignment in Germany. He and Elaine later enjoyed annual family trips to their Snowbird timeshare, often timed with Oktoberfest, a joyful reminder of their years abroad.

David also officiated football and basketball for decades, was a dedicated Walmart associate in retirement, and served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. David had a deep and unwavering testimony and loved teaching Gospel Doctrine classes among many other fulfilling callings including serving in the Bishopric.

David was known for his sense of humor, quiet strength, and deep love of family. He was happiest during game nights, especially when playing cards and cribbage with loved ones.

To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was proudly known as Grandpa and Papa, titles he cherished. He was their storyteller, cheerleader, and quiet hero, making each child feel uniquely loved. He truly lit up in their presence, and they brought him immense joy.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; children Donnell (Kevin), Debbie, Jared (Brandi), Joel (Heidi), and Jana (Jeremy); 20 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Carole Carden. He was preceded in death by his parents Minnie and William Thomas, his Brother Bill Thomas, and grandson Makena Thomas.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Roy 30th Ward LDS Chapel, 5900 S. 3100 West, Roy, Utah, 84067. A viewing for friends and family will take place on Friday, July 11, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and again on Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow immediately after at Clearfield City Cemetery located at 1050 State St, Clearfield, Utah, 84015.

The family wishes to thank Enhabit Hospice, including Renato, Linda, Chaplain Kim, and Baylee, for their loving care, and also the many relatives, friends, and ward neighbors who offered love and support during this difficult time.

David’s greatest legacy is the love he gave his family. There are no words to fully express how deeply he was loved or how greatly he will be missed.
