Louis Richard Howell

Layton – Louis Richard Howell, age 95, died Friday, July 4, 2025.
He was born November 24, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to William Louis Howell and Ellen Rowley Lunt Howell.
He graduated from Ogden High School in 1947 and Weber College in 1949.
He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Eastern Canada from June 1949 to June 1951. He married Ione King June 29, 1951, in the Salt Lake Temple, and they just celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary.
He enlisted in the US Air Force and was an electronic technician for four years. In 1957 he graduated from USAF pilot training and flew jet fighters and transports out of the California Air National Guard base at Van Nuys, CA for several years. He retired as a Major.
After moving to Reseda CA, Louis graduated from California State University, Northridge, and worked as a corporate accountant. The family moved to Saugus, CA in 1967. In 1974 they and their seven children moved to Fresno, CA where they lived until retirement in 1993.
Louis was always active in the church, serving in many callings. After retiring, he and Ione served two missions: the Salt Lake Family History Mission and the South Dakota Rapid City Mission. He also dedicated time at the Ogden Temple, and the Ogden Family Search Library.
He is survived by his wife, Ione, and seven children: Steven (Nadine) Howell, Fresno, CA; Joan (Jay) Ripley, Layton, UT; Diane Howell, West Jordan, UT; Douglas (Karma) Howell, Fresno, CA; Ilene (Kim) Wayment, Syracuse, UT; Brian (Danielle) Howell, Reno, NV; and Karen (Mark) Carrozza, West Point, UT; 22 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; and a sister, Ann Cragun, Pleasant View, UT.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ray, and Clyde, and three sisters, Marie Mary Howell Christensen, Alice Morine Howell Kuller, and Lydia Ruth Howell Clark.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday July 11, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah. Friends may visit with family prior to services from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
