Brent Marshall Nichols

Jul 8, 2025

St. George, Utah – Brent Marshall Nichols, 74, passed away at his home on July 4, 2025, from a long battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and Emphysema. He was born on July 22, 1950, in Ogden, Utah to Jerald and Helen Nichols.

Brent was Student Body President in High School, a graduate of Steven Henegar College for Business and Footwear Manager of Bon Marché at the age of 19. He was a self-employed painter for 40 years, Pastor at AA in Ogden, maintenance worker at Red Cliffs Rehab and Sterling Court, and Ordinance Worker at the St. George Temple.

Brent was so proud to have returned to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 5 years ago. He was sealed to his wife, Tracie in March of 2021.

Brent was a good friend to people from every walk of life because he walked it. He was known at the local bar as Uncle Brent. He was always giving younger drinkers words of encouragement even when he was struggling himself. One recently said “Uncle Brent adopted all of us stragglers.”

Many ward members commented that he had the most genuine testimony of the love of Jesus Christ. Still giving to others, he has donated his physical body to science so they may study the progression of IPF.

Brent is survived by his wife, Tracie; mother, Helen Beth Nichols of St. George, Utah; brother, Verle Dean Nichols of Las Vegas, Nevada; sister, Shauna Lee Johnson of Nibley, Utah; sons: Brent D. Nichols (Seana) of Ogden, Utah, Todd Nichols (Kelli) of Roy, Utah, and Troy Nichols of St. George, Utah; grandchildren: Mirkeli, Cassidee, Tyler and Kade; great-grandchildren: Lyric and Autumn; step-daughter, Kimberlee (Tim) Lopez; step-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Charlotte and Lincoln; and many loved nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerald Dean Nichols; ex-wife, Candace Leona Larsen; brother, Steven Val Nichols; sister, Helen Maureen Knight Howe; and step-daughter, Gina Tori O’Neal.
