Vera May Bailey Ivie

Jul 9, 2025

June 6, 1932 — July 7, 2025

South Ogden – On July 7, 2025, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, Vera May Bailey Ivie, passed away surrounded by her family who loved and honored her.

Mom was born June 6, 1932, in Provo, Utah to Glen James Bailey and Elvera Marie Jensen. She was their only child. She was raised in Provo, Utah and attended Provo City Schools graduating from Provo High School in 1950.

Our mother married her high school sweetheart, Harold J. Ivie, on June 9, 1951, in Provo, Utah. They were later sealed for all time and eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on October 2, 1952.

Since Mom’s father died when she was just eight years old, she looked forward to marrying and having a large family. As our family grew, we had many challenges and yet we enjoyed many memorable times together. Because family was so important, our mother went to great lengths to be the glue that held our family together. Our mother was a woman of faith who trusted in our Father in Heaven and in His Son, Jesus Christ. We have all been richly blessed because of her stalwart example and her dedication in living the gospel throughout her life.

Mom’s greatest joy and sense of satisfaction was her family. Together they had six children, five of which are surviving. Cynthia (Robert) Knudsen, Shauna (Brent) Shaw, Harold Andrew Ivie (stillborn), Jerold (Valerie) Ivie, James (Michelle) Ivie, and Ryan (Tara) Ivie.

Our mother cherished each of her 6 children, 27 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She had a special way of making everyone feel that they were her favorite.

She was preceded in death by our beloved father, Harold J. Ivie, her parents, her son, Harold Andrew Ivie and grandson, Richard Glen Ivie (stillborn).

As a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mom appreciated and loved serving in many capacities. Mom and dad were blessed to serve a mission in the Salt Lake City, Temple Square Mission. This was undoubtedly one of mom’s most cherished blessings. She had such a love for temple and missionary work.

Our mother and father helped many people as lay counselors for 35 years with drug and alcohol abuse. Together, they gave many classes and seminars on the importance of using the Twelve-step program, trusting in our higher power, and establishing a positive mental attitude in overcoming drug and alcohol addiction.

It was most certainly a blessing that mom and dad were able to grow old together and have that treasured time where they enjoyed camping, boating, traveling, and giving service.

She has certainly been an inspiration to many in sharing life’s lessons and personal insights through submitting editorials to the Standard-Examiner. She has been a guiding light to all who have known and loved her.

Although our family, dear friends and loved ones will all greatly miss her and the wonderful influence she has always been in our lives, we celebrate her life and the legacy that she has left.

Our family would like to thank all of the staff at Hidden Valley Assisted Living for their kindness, love and support as she made their beautiful facility her new home for the past seven years. We also want to thank Serenity Hospice. Their staff also went above and beyond to care for our mother in this last chapter of her life. She surely appreciated those special friendships and loved all those who helped and assisted her.
