Major Walter Douglass Gould USAF, Ret., 84, of Fruit Heights, Utah, passed away on May 24, 2025, surrounded by family. Born May 18, 1941, in Pocatello, ID, he grew up in Ephrata, WA. He joined the Air Force ROTC at Washington State University, graduating with a degree in electrical engineering in 1964.

Walt married Shelby McMillan in 1964, beginning 60 years of marriage. He served in Vietnam and worked on major defense systems at Hill AFB until retiring from the Air Force in 1984 and later from Northrop Grumman in 2008.

In retirement, Walt volunteered at the Hill Aerospace Museum and served on the Aerospace Heritage Foundation of Utah’s board. He had a passion for history, genealogy, flying, and travel. A devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, he served over a decade as an Elder.

Diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2019, Walt’s strength and spirit endured. He is survived by his wife Shelby, children Tamara (Brad) and Donald (Leah), and grandson Conner. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, deep faith, and love of family and flight.

Funeral services will be held on June 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3329 Harrison Blvd. Ogden, Utah. Full obituary information can be found at Lindquist’s Mortuary website,

In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift may be given to the Hill Aerospace Museum or the American Parkinson Disease Association.
