Brandon Odell Miles

Brandon married Candace “Billy” in April of 2005; they had two daughters, Charley Nicole and Joey Jane Miles, and later divorced. He married Tanya Sue “Kit” Newbery on January 28, 2025, in Ogden. With this marriage he gained two sons, Jonas “Joe” and Ronan “The Rooster” Shultz.

Brandon is survived by his wife, Tanya; children, Charley and Joey Miles, and Joe and Ronan Shultz; his parents, Mark and Debra Miles; brothers, Jason (Andrea), Jacob, Nathan (Savannah), and Kenneth (Heather); mother-in-law, Valerie Ann Newbery; and brother-in-law, Franklin Johnson Newbery. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Thomas Walker Newbery.

Brandon had an enduring passion for horses, spending his younger years ranching in the rugged beauty of Stanley, Idaho where his deep love for horsemanship took root and flourished. He lived by the code of John Wayne, embodying grit, loyalty, and quiet strength in everything he did. As Wayne once said, “Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway,” a line Brandon lived without ever needing to speak it.

A gifted marksman and skilled gunsmith, Brandon shared his knowledge freely, always offering guidance without ego. With a humble heart and a steady presence, he was a natural protector. His calling was clearest during his time as a detective in Crimes Against Children, where his tireless dedication gave voice to the voiceless and protection to those who needed it most.

As a father, Brandon poured his heart into preparing his children for life. He taught them awareness, discipline, and skills to navigate the world with strength and wisdom. He believed in the sacredness of nightly dinners, where stories were shared, values were passed down, and love was made tangible in simple moments. He was endlessly proud of each of his children, recognizing their unique strengths and celebrating who they were becoming.

As a husband, Brandon led with quiet strength and unwavering devotion. He was the first to open a door, the first to step forward when protection was needed. He honored his marriage with fierce loyalty, deep tenderness, and steadfast commitment. To be loved by him was to be guided, supported, and truly seen. He offered not only a soul-deep connection and enduring friendship, but a sanctuary and a place of trust, laughter, wisdom, and warmth. His love was shelter, his presence a compass and anchor.

Brandon also served with honor in the United States Army Reserve in the 872ND CS Company, deploying to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He deeply valued his military service and carried that discipline and courage into every area of his life. His awards include: Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” Device, and Driver and Mechanic Badge.

Described as “an Operator,” he transformed his desire to serve his country into a life dedicated to protecting his community. From April 2007 until his final watch, Sergeant Brandon Miles served with honor in Patrol, SWAT, Bomb Squad, Detective, Motors, School Resource, and Training. Every assignment bore the mark of his integrity, work ethic, and quiet leadership.

Known for his unwavering commitment to service, Brandon was a vigilant guardian in every role he took on. He never sought recognition, only results. An avid hunter and masterful bowman, he found peace in the wilderness and camaraderie in the hunt, often recounting the day’s adventures around a fire with the ones he trusted most.

His loyalty, love, and legacy live on in the countless lives he touched. His presence was strong, his heart fierce, and his life one of noble purpose. He will be missed beyond measure and never forgotten.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
