Donna Gay Knapp Montgomery

1928 – 2025
It’s with great love that we celebrate the life of Donna Gay Knapp Montgomery, born on February 20, 1928, in Newdale, ID, and who passed away on February 22, 2025. Donna married Nolan Montgomery of Ogden, Utah in 1949 and in their eighteen-year marriage had five kids and moved from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles.
She was a proud member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and her service to others extended into her active role in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in the primary and relief society. Donna worked as an Eligibility Supervisor for L.A. County Social Services, where she served for 25 years. After retiring, she moved to Utah and worked for the IRS. She loved gardening, word puzzles and working on genealogy. She was a treasure chest of stories, memories, and cheers from her junior high school years that we begged her to recite for us. Even in her later years, she held onto her sense of humor, making us laugh with funny sayings that we will all miss. She loved watching Heartland and spending time with her kitty Annie, but nothing mattered to her more than God and her family.
Donna is survived by her children Blaine Montgomery, Christine Palmer (Brodie), Kevin (Adrianna) Montgomery, Janice (Richard) Ilizaliturri, and Kent Montgomery. She is also remembered by her 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah (Libby) and Silas Knapp.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 9:30 am at Millcreek LDS Ward, 770 15th Street, Ogden, Utah. Funeral services will follow at the same venue at 11:00 am MST. Her interment graveside service will be on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Teton-Newdale Cemetery, 5644 West 3000 North, Sugar City, Idaho.
Donna’s life was filled with laughter, love, and service, and her memory will continue to inspire us all. Please join us in celebrating her life by sharing your favorite memories and uploading photos of Donna on her memorial page.
