Kathleen Smeding Petersen

Mar 4, 2025

Kathleen Smeding Petersen, fondly known as Kathy, a pillar of love, compassion, and unwavering support, left us on March 2, 2025. Born on March 28, 1950, in Ogden, Utah, Kathy led a life filled with love, service, and soothing melodies. Her love for her husband and family was the centerpiece of her existence, a beacon that guided her through life’s journey. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, like reading a good book, playing her harp and listening to her favorite songs. However, nothing compared to the joy she found in the laughter and smiles of her husband, daughter, grandchildren, great-grandson, siblings and friends.

Kathy’s thoughtful and loving nature was reflected in her devotion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In Doctrine and Covenants 18:10, it is said, “Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God.” Kathy embodied this verse through her service as the President of the Relief Society among her many other callings in various other church organizations. She dedicated her life to making her home a sanctuary of love, comfort, and faith, a testament to her years as a homemaker. Kathy’s compassionate spirit touched lives in Utah, Arizona, and California, leaving an indelible mark of kindness and warmth wherever she went.

Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Curtis Petersen, and their cherished daughter, Michelle (Andrew) Schow, three grandchildren, Devin (Ashli), Kylee (Brad) and Lacie, a great-grandson, Beckett, five siblings, John (Marisa) Smeding, Pam Kelley, Susan (Kerry) Wangsgard, Pat (Dave) Hansen, Scott (Jodi) Smeding. She is preceded in death by parents Wilford Jr., and Ellen Smeding and two sisters, Diane and Sharen.

A viewing will be held at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Ogden on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 6-8 PM, and again on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 AM.

Services will be live-streamed www.myers-mortuary.com
