Lynn Cecil Satterthwaite

1942 – 2025
Lynn Cecil Satterthwaite passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, surrounded by his family. Lynn was born on August 17, 1942, to Cecil Hodges Satterthwaite and Jean Passey Satterthwaite, in Ogden, Utah.
Lynn was a devoted and loving husband, brother, uncle, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to the North Central States Mission. He attended Weber State College where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Social Work.
He married his beautiful sweetheart, Melanie Crandall on September 24, 1965, in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple. Together, they had five children Julie (Blain Johnson), Brett (Jaymie), Eric (Jen), McKell (Kacey Jardine) and JeNeal (Dave Martinez); and his favorites – 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren (with four more on the way).
Lynn’s love for and commitment to his family grew from a very young age. He lost his mother at the age of 8, and thus grew up in a large, blended family. Along with his stepmother came a veritable his, hers and ours with a total of eight children, who loved and lived as a very connected family. It was this environment that instilled in him the unconditional, all-accepting love he had as a father and grandfather for all who came into his family. He treated everyone as his favorite and somehow made time to have a personal connection with every grand-and great-grandchild, niece and nephew; many of whom he gave unique and fitting nicknames.
Lynn had a special place in his heart for the Bear Lake Valley. He spent many summers working on his grandfather’s and uncle’s farms during his growing-up years. It’s where he met his sweetheart, Melanie and where he spent a lot of time with his kids and grandkids at the old family home in Garden City.
Lynn was a farmer at heart but worked in construction for many years with his brother Larry, which helped to fund his farming habit. He loved nothing better than to stand back and admire a finished construction job with a huge sense of accomplishment. He never met a piece of wood he couldn’t turn into a beautifully built piece of furniture, a field he didn’t want to plow, a hard day’s work that couldn’t be cooled down with an ice-cold Pepsi, or a bad situation that he couldn’t make a joke out of. He had an incredible sense of humor and was very quick witted! Lynn was hard-working and went 100 miles an hour his entire life.
Lynn is survived by his sweet and cherished wife; children; grandchildren Dallin Johnson (Ximen), Taylor Meibos (Joe), Alyson Johnson, Kelton Satterthwaite, Maryn Edwards (Dallin), Spencer Johnson (Rachel), Hunter Satterthwaite (Emily), Cecil Jaken Satterthwaite, Chloe Satterthwaite, Easton Satterthwaite, Kendell Jardine, Ty Martinez, Sophie Satterthwaite, Sydney Bott (Seth), Hagen Jardine, Camden Satterthwaite, Nash Martinez, Leah Martinez, Kate Satterthwaite, Brynn Martinez, Ruby Satterthwaite; and great-grandchildren Hadley McMillan, Aiden Johnson, Graycen McMillan, Luke Meibos, Sloane Meibos, Kalai Johnson, Chet Meibos, Scottie Edwards, Torah Johnson, Oaks Edwards, Wrenley Satterthwaite, Palmer Edwards; together with sister-in-law Margaret Satterthwaite, brothers Brent (Dottie) and Dale (Liana), and sisters Linda (Joe Stromberg) and Joy (Bob Fox). He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Thayne and wife Margaret, brother Larry, sister Cheryl and husband Russell Johnson.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at McKay-Dee Hospital for their professional and compassionate attention to his care.
