Flo Grover Loveland
August 3, 1928 – May 15, 2025
Flo Grover Loveland, age 96, passed away May 15, 2025 in Brigham City. She was born August 3, 1928 in East Garland, the first of 5 children, to Fredrick Miles Grover and LaVona Christensen Grover.
She attended elementary school in Garland and helped on the family farm by carrying 10 gallon milk cans to the cooler and helping stack hay bales. In 1941, just before Flo turned 13, her mother was involved in a serious farm accident, losing the use of both of her arms. Flo assumed the responsibility of preparing meals, doing the washing and keeping the house in order. In her mothers’ words, she was a ‘thoughtful and ambitious child, equal to the challenge that faced her at such a tender age’.
After graduating from Bear River High, Flo worked as a cashier at Safeway in Tremonton. During this time, she met her sweetheart, Dewain Loveland whom she married on April 4, 1952. Their marriage was solemnized in 2004 in the Ogden Temple. They were married for 64 years before Dewains’ passing in 2016. They lived in Roy briefly and moved to their home in South Willard in 1956, remaining there until 2024. For six years, in the 1950’s, Flo was the catcher for the Utah Shamrocks women’s fast-pitch softball team. She worked at the Ogden Arsenal and helped in the orchards and fruit stands of both Pettingills’ and Barbers’. In 1966 she began work at Ogden Defense Depot, retiring after 23 years in 1989. After their retirement, Flo and Dewain spent 14 winters as snowbirds in Nevada and Quartzsite, Arizona, where they enjoyed their many adventures and made lifelong friends.
She was a hard working, tender yet tough as nails, extremely organized, delightful individual. Her Mississippi Mud Cake was the best! Flo was a wonderful wife, daughter, sister, mother, granny, neighbor and friend.
Flo was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Wayne, Bud and Steve; and her husband Dewain.
She is survived by her sister: Marie Korth; her son: Bryan (Deb) Loveland; her daughter: Jeanette Loveland; 2 granddaughters: Shawn (Shawn) Rodeback and Brittany (Jaxon) Drewes; bonus great-grandchildren: Keenan (Ashlyn) Rodeback, Levi Rodeback, Shawnee Rodeback, Kaden Rodeback (Mia) and Davis Rodeback; 4 great-grandchildren: Ellie, Ava, Mia, and Maci; and 3 great-great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Walker and Kai.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Paige and Rose from Inspiration Hospice. Also, to the staff at Maple Springs Lighthouse where Flo resided the last few months of her life.
