Kathleen (Hurley) Montierth

Nov 3, 2025

Kathleen (Hurley) Montierth passed away on September 4, 2024 in Salt Lake City. Kathy was a beloved wife and partner to her husband, Frank, an incredible mother to her daughters, Caroline and Charlene, and a valued friend to many.

Kathy was born in Braintree, Massachusetts in 1947, and grew up near Burbank, California. She graduated from Providence High School before obtaining her degree in English and drama from California State University-Northridge. She moved to Utah in 1977 and started working at the IRS Center in Ogden several years later. The job itself was the epitome of drudgery, but it was there that she met Frank Montierth, who became her friend and later her dear husband. She spent much of her career working in procurement at Hill Air Force Base. She particularly enjoyed writing recommendations for awards and appreciated the good friends she made there.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Muriel Alice and John Hurley, and her beloved older sister, Maureen Yeater.

Kathy loved painting, music, shopping for antiques, writing poetry, and wearing her bright, colorful jewelry. She was the most competitive Scrabble player you will ever meet, cried at a good rendition of the national anthem, and made such an amazing vegetable beef soup that our family keeps a copy in a safe deposit box so it will never be lost. She loved her cats, including her current ball of fluff, Kabuki. Kathy brought color and laughter to every interaction she had. She was warm, witty, authentic, accepting, and honest. Mom believed that everything was better with a splash of color and sparkle, and she added that sparkle to our lives every day.

The family welcomes friends to stop by a memorial service on Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. at the Union Station Wattis Dumke Room, 2501 Wall Avenue, Ogden.

Starting at $4.32/week.
