Gerald W. Jones

Oct 7, 2025

1949 – 2025

Gerald W. Jones, formerly of Brigham City, passed away on October 3, 2025.

He was born on June 16, 1949, in Macon, Georgia, to his parents, Jimmie Jones Sr. and Katherine Womack Jones Wofford.

Gerald married Kimberlee Elgan and later divorced. Together, they had two beautiful children: Stosh Jones of Las Vegas, NV, and Jessica Abernethy of North Ogden, UT–whom he loved with his whole heart.

He was blessed with four cherished grandchildren–Zoe, Jaron, Jayme, and Tatum–who brought him immense pride and joy.

Gerald worked for Morton Thiokol/ATK, where he spent the majority of his career before retiring. He took great pride in being part of the space program. He traveled to Florida for work, and he loved to talk about those trips. Meeting astronauts and contributing to such a historic effort was a highlight of his career. His dedication earned him numerous awards.

Gerald was an intelligent and talented man with a wide range of interests. He was well-read and deeply knowledgeable about the things he cared about–especially sports, politics, and Utah brewing history. A true sports enthusiast, he would watch nearly any game on TV. He always rooted for the underdog and was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox, the Raiders, and the Utah Utes. He also spent many years building an impressive collection of Becker’s Brewing memorabilia, along with artifacts from other historic Utah breweries–something he was especially proud of.

Politically passionate and principled, Gerald was a proud Democrat. He spoke about current affairs with thoughtfulness, depth, and conviction. He never hesitated to stand his ground and always sought the greater good.

Gerald was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply missed and loved beyond measure.

In his final years, he was lovingly cared for by his sister Kathy, his niece Pepper, and his great-niece DeVerae. Their love, laughter, and support brought him peace and joy as his health declined.

The family would like to thank the staff at Fairfield Village and Canyon Home Care & Hospice–especially Heather, Jamie, and his “favorite,” Christy–for the compassionate care they provided during Gerald’s final days.

He is survived by his children, Stosh Jones and Jessica (Dustin) Abernethy; his grandchildren, Zoe, Jaron, Jayme, and Tatum; his brother, Vic Jones (Mary) of Brigham City; his sisters, Kathy Fialkowski of Riverdale, Karen Behler of West Jordan, Khristine Andersen of Brigham City, and Susan Melchior of Clearfield; his niece, Pepper Hawkins (Rob); and his great-niece, DeVerae Duckworth of Clearfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie Jones Sr. and Katherine Womack Jones Wofford; his stepfather, Lawrence Wofford; and his brother, Jimmie Jones Jr.

In typical Gerald fashion–and in keeping with his wishes–cremation has taken place in Brigham City. As he put it: “no viewing and no (B.S.).” A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM at Myers Mortuary in Brigham City; 205 S. 100 E. Brigham City, Utah 84302.

Services entrusted to Myers Mortuary of Brigham City.
