Lorrie Blanch

Oct 13, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend, Lorrie Fuhriman Blanch, after a two-year-long hard fight with stage IV lung cancer. Lorrie was born in Ogden, UT, on March 2, 1953, to Keith and Elsie Fuhriman, as the fourth of five children. Lorrie attended Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1971. Lorrie began working at the IRS when she was just 18 and had a successful 37-year-long career before retiring in 2008. Lorrie married her high school sweetheart, Jon Scott Blanch, in Elko, NV, on January 1, 1983. Together, they welcomed two children, a son and a daughter.

Lorrie was a wonderful mother and wife.

Every year, Lorrie and Scott would grow a robust garden at their home. They enjoyed planting seed and admiring them grow into beautiful flowers and plentiful fruit/vegetable plants. They enjoyed sharing the vegetables they harvested with everyone around them, often taking them to work, neighbors, and family members.

After retirement, Lorrie started a weekly tradition with her mother, going to lunch and then shopping. This tradition has carried on even after her mother’s passing and is now a tradition she shares with her sister, Dana, and her brother, Kim. Lorrie looked forward to and cherished the weekly lunches, which allowed her to catch up on all the things happening with her siblings and their families and share her own updates.

Over the years, while working at the IRS. Lorrie met and made lifelong friends. She admired these women and kept in contact with them until the end. They had fun together during their regularly scheduled lunches, and though we teased that they were a bit “rowdy” when they all got together, earning them the nickname of the Sailors, they were family to Lorrie. We are eternally grateful for the Sailors.

Lorrie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Hannah and Josh Gard, their six beautiful children, Luke, Nox, Bailey & Brandon May, Tagen, Mylee, and Cade. Her sister Dana & Wayne Austin, her brother Kim Fuhriman, and her sister Marla Swartz, along with many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Scott, her son Shelby, her parents, her in-laws, and a brother.

The family would also like to extend a huge thank you to McKay Dee Hospital, especially the Cancer Center, for their kindness, compassion, and care over the last two years. Without the amazing medical team that was assigned to Lorrie, we would not have gotten the last two years to enjoy her. Dr. Hessenauer (formerly of IH), Dr. Cassel, and his entire team from the front desk to the nurses. Dr. Evans (Radiation Oncology) and his entire team, from the front desk to the nurses. Each of the nurses in the cancer infusion center, Taylor, Laura, Kelly, Betsy, Monica, Sonja, Makaela, and the CNAs, you all made a profound difference in Lorrie’s life throughout her cancer journey. You made her smile, provided her with care, and treated her with the utmost respect. Once the cancer had spread, it was decided that Lorrie would be sent home to Hospice. We would also like to thank Inspiration Home Health & Hospice for their care over the last couple of weeks of Lorrie’s life. Lorrie’s primary nurse, Katie, her CNA, Lina, her nurse when she passed Monica, and all the staff who were extremely helpful at this difficult time. We are forever grateful for all that each of you did. If we have missed anyone who was a part of this journey and cared for Lorrie, please know it is not intentional, and we are thankful for all the care provided.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah. Lorrie’s service will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 10 a.m. also at Myers Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that if you fancy, please take a shot of tequila in Lorrie’s memory, and donate to the McKay Dee Hospital Cancer Services
