David L. Duncan

Oct 27, 2025

David L. Duncan, affectionately known as Pastor Dave, was a beacon of light and hope to all who knew him. Born on June 13, 1933, in Greenup, Kentucky, David dedicated his life to serving God and his fellow man. He was compassionate and inspiring, a dedicated shepherd to his flock and a beloved figure in his community. His infectious laughter and warm spirit brightened the lives of many, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.

David’s journey began in Kentucky, took him to Miami, Florida, he joined the Air Force and served in Korea where he received the Purple Heart Award. He arrived in Utah as an airman at Hill Air Force Base. In Ogden, he met the love of his life, Leah Stuart. They were united in matrimony on June 8, 1956.

Known for his love of church, golf, and politics, David was also a respected figure in his community. He was elected as the Weber County Treasurer and later as the Utah State Treasurer. David’s dedication and hard work didn’t stop there. He served as the chief investment advisor at Weber State University and was honored to be the Grand Marshall, alongside Leah, at the North Ogden Cherry Days Celebration.

But perhaps David’s greatest achievement was his role as Pastor Dave at Valley View Baptist Church. For 45 years, he faithfully served his congregation, leading with humility, humor, and an unwavering faith. He was instrumental in building and establishing the Church, creating a sanctuary where people could come together in worship and fellowship. As a testament to his faith, David lived by the words of Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

David leaves behind a rich legacy of love, service, and faith. He is survived by his children, Ruth (Dan) Johnson and Charles (Vickie) Duncan, 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Leah Stuart Duncan, son, David Duncan, a granddaughter, Kara Marie Duncan, parents, Charles and Grace Duncan and ten brothers and sisters.

Viewings will be held at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. Ogden, Utah on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 6-8 pm and Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 9:30-10:30 am. The celebration service of David’s life will take place at the mortuary on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 11:00 am.
