MarJean Carter Ballif

MarJean Carter Ballif, passed at age 98, reuniting with her husband Lyman, son Brad, and daughter Kay. She died on August 28, 2025, at the home she had lived in since 1953. She loved her farm in Hooper, Utah.
MarJean was born on June 11, 1927, in Preston, Idaho. Her parents were Ernest Willmore Carter and Anna Leona Peterson. She was the fourth child of six children. She attended school in Preston and graduated from Preston Senior High School on May 24. 1946.
She married Serge Lyman Ballif in the Logan Temple on February 3, 1947. Lyman soon left to the Southern States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A year later MarJean joined him in the mission field. They taught ballroom dancing across the mission.
In 1953, Lyman and MarJean moved to Hooper, Utah. There they raised five children, Jeanne, Ann, Stan, Brad, and Kay. While Lyman was working as an airline pilot, MarJean spent her years running the Hooper farm and caring for her family.
Mother was faithful in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life, with many church callings and teaching assignments. She served as the Special Needs Primary President, volunteered with the Young Women Special Needs Mutual, and in recent years, lead and helped at the Hooper Senior Citizens Group activities.
MarJean is survived by her children, Jeanne and Scott Spencer, Ann and Dick Hunter, Stan and Valerie Ballif. She is also survived by her sister, Adelia Bell. She has 18 grandchildren, with 41 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren. She will be remembered for her absolute devotion to family.
MarJean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lyman, her children, Brad and Kay, her siblings, Clyde, Eudora, Leslie, and Dean. Also, her great granddaughter Kelton.
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Wildwood Ward Chapel, 4675 West 5500 South, Hooper, Utah. A Viewing will be on Wednesday evening, September 3, 2025 at Myers Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy, Utah from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and Thursday morning from 9:30 – 10:45 am at the Ward Chapel prior to the Funeral Service. Interment will be in the Hooper Cemetery.
