Carl Chris Johnson

1938 — 2025
Carl Chris Johnson, 87, passed away in Ogden, Utah, on August 26, 2025.
He was born on May 29, 1938, in Ogden, Utah, to Frank Hoaken Johnson and Venna Elizabeth (Montgomery). Carl attended Mount Fort Junior High and Ben Lomond High School. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Wainwright, Fairbanks, Alaska, from 1961-1963.
Carl worked with his parents and siblings in their greenhouse business before beginning his 35-year career with the U.S. Postal Service.
On July 15, 1972, he married Gloria (Barber) Mosher. With that union, Carl gained an instant family and lovingly helped raise Gloria’s three young children.
He and Gloria were supportive of family and often attended the grandkids ‘sports games, dance recitals, weddings, missionary farewells, and birthday parties. During those birthday celebrations, Carl was always eager to get to the cake and ice cream–oh, how he loved sweets! There were always treats at the grandparents ‘house and many trips to Old Farm Market for ice cream and potato wedges. He loved playing and watching sports and discussing politics with his brothers and nephews.
Carl and Gloria retired in their early 50s and enjoyed many adventures together: fishing at Flaming Gorge, snowmobiling in Yellowstone, camping in the desert while rockhounding and spending winters in St. George and Mesquite. Along with his brothers and nephew, Carl helped build a family cabin at Henry’s Lake, Idaho, a place filled with treasured memories.
Carl sure loved his view of the mountains from his Mountain Green home. He truly appreciated all the help from his family grandkids, and kind neighbors. So many people gave extra care and time He also cherished his time with Mary Lynn and Sandey on lunch outings and many trips to Wendover and the Tee Pee.
One of his greatest joys was receiving a back scratch. He often paid his kids and grandkids for a scratch. Gloria lovingly gave him countless back scratches over the years, which always made him so happy. He adored her and cared for her with great tenderness during her years of declining health.
Carl was quietly generous. He made countless donations to charities including Children’s Hospitals, cancer and Alzheimer’s research, as well as offerings to his LDS church.
Carl is survived by his sister, Mary Lynn Donoviel; “bonus son” nephew Stan (Sue) Stark; daughter, Lisa (Mike) Holmes; son-in-law, Jeff Johnson; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Mosher; eight grandchildren: Brittney, Lacy, Colten, Lindsey, Amber, Garett, Parker, and Alayna; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
