Sherry Staker

Apr 14, 2026

— A Life of Creativity, Courage, and Love

Sherry was born in Brigham City and raised in Willard, where her first job was working at her grandmother’s fruit stand among the peach orchards. That early experience shaped her sense of beauty, hard work, and wonder, grounding a life defined by both creativity and resilience.

She attended Ogden High School, where her talent earned her recognition as Best Actress in the state and scholarships to Brigham Young University and Weber State. She chose Weber State, earning her degree in Theater Arts and a teaching certification–two paths that would define her life: creativity and service.

Sherry was, above all, a steadfast and loving matriarch. She raised her daughters with strength, independence, and grit. After many years as a single mother, she found lasting love with Lowell Staker and welcomed four stepchildren. Together they built a life rich with family sharing 30 years together until his passing in 2019.

Their ranch in Hooper reflected Sherry’s vibrant spirit–a homestead filled with horses, chickens, peacocks, tabby cats, and beautiful gardens. It was a place of gathering, where card games stretched into the evening, music filled the rooms, and storytelling and laughter were constant. Together, Sherry and Lowell traveled throughout Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, and across the United States.

Teaching was her calling. At Job Corps in California and Utah, Sherry taught English to students from diverse backgrounds, seeing potential where others might not. Several of her students won national essay contests, which she proudly accompanied them to Washington, D.C. as they read their essays on the floor of the United States Senate.

Sherry’s creativity knew no bounds. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing every chance she got. She made music, played guitar, danced, and wrote and illustrated children’s stories for her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell; her cousin and lifelong friend, Norma Angus; and many dear friends. She is survived by her daughters Laurie, Jan, Karen, and Christina; her stepchildren Cathy, Judy, Allen, and Linda; and a growing family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry forward her legacy of independence, creativity, and love.

Services will be held Friday, April 17, at Myers Mortuary in Ogden, with a viewing from 10:00-11:30 a.m., followed by a celebration of her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Theater Arts program at Weber State University (Theatre Gift Fund), honoring Sherry’s lifelong dedication to the arts and education.
