Marguerite East Hipwell

1933 – 2026
Marguerite East Hipwell, 93, returned to live with Heavenly Father April 11, 2026. Born in Old Dee Hospital to Gilbert Veriah and Mabel Jacobson East on March 22, 1933, she was raised on a beautiful farm in Warren, Utah, where she grew up with many wonderful friends and 3 older sisters. She attended Warren Elementary, Plain City Jr High, the old Weber High, and Ogden business college and made lifelong friends that still continue lunch get togethers monthly.
On May 11, 1956, Marguerite married Keith Wade Hipwell; they were together for 63 years prior to his passing. She and Keith traveled a lot, throughout the states, many other countries and on a few cruises. They never missed the annual Navy Reunion no matter where it was held and even helped host one held in Utah.
For her 90th birthday — instead of letting us throw a party in her honor — she chose to take all 39 family members on a Disney Cruise.
She loved children, was a librarian, preschool teacher, and for the past two years she read with the second graders — all at West Weber Elementary. They affectionately called her their “reading grandma”!
Being quite the social butterfly, she loved to visit people in her community to see how they were doing and offer to help them in any way she could. She took care of a LOT of people without expecting anything in return.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her whole life. She held many callings including Relief Society President and temple worker at the Ogden Temple.
Marguerite was also a very active member, and also served as president, of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. One year she was chosen as one of four women to be royalty. She wore her crown beautifully in the 24th of July parade, she was very proud of her family’s heritage.
Quilting with friends, putting together puzzles, watching Judge Judy and the Utah Jazz were some of her favorite pastimes.
She is survived by 3 children: Karen Sandoval (Luis), Carl Hipwell (Jody), and Kathy Mamanakis (David); eleven Grandchildren Tori, Justin, Ryan (Karen) Jordan, Taylor, Ethan, Chandler (Carl) and Donovan, Tessa, Cydnie, Martin (Kathy); fifteen great-grandchildren: Carson, Taylor, Phoenix, Liam, Halston, Reese, Easton, Krew, Steele, Brixton, Beckett, Sloane, Tatum, Tonya, and Kairi. One great-great-granddaughter, Adalyn. She supported them all by attending ball games, recitals, and all things important to them.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Keith; son, Kent East Hipwell; grandson Chase Jacob Sandoval; parents; and sisters, Norma Riniker (Fred), Inez Penrod (Dale), Shirley Richards (Will).
The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff and volunteers at Sunflower Assisted Living, especially Oakley, and Inspiration Hospice for Ashley’s never ending help.
