Alfred Eugene Hollywood Jr.
Alfred Eugene Hollywood Jr., 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by family April 17th in Ogden, Utah after suffering a heart attack. He was born May 24th, 1952, in Long Branch, New Jersey to Alfred Eugene Hollywood Sr. and Marie Therese Mistretta. Al served in the United States Navy as a Torpedoman First Class full-time and then later as a reservist for 20 years until his retirement. He married Eileen Marie Brown July 26th,1975, in Charleston, South Carolina. He was honored to be the father to his two daughters, Brigid Lynn and Katelyn Ann Hollywood. He attended Penn State where he received an Associate of Science as a Biomedical Engineering Technician, a degree he utilized in servicing a variety of equipment, including those used in pioneering the artificial heart. Al was proud of his detailed work and enjoyed traveling across the country interacting with customers. He prided himself on doing all he approached with excellence, including church and community service. He served actively in the Catholic Church in multiple esteemed roles in the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Legion of Mary and a catechist for over 20 years. Al loved serving in other capacities in his community as well, as a volunteer for the American Red Cross, for which was recently awarded the Biomedical Achievement Award for his outstanding support and dedication as a Blood Donor Ambassador Volunteer. Wahlen Veteran Home was his favorite place to serve. He could often be found calling bingo, visiting and assisting residents, and going above and beyond to attend to the veterans’ needs. Al was a true patriot and felt honored to serve both his country and all those who fought for it. He was passionate about civil rights and equality. Everyone in Al’s purview across the country loved his enthusiasm, sincerity, thoughtfulness, and humor. He made people feel loved, seen, and treasured and inspired others to serve and to see the good in themselves- to make themselves proud. Al loved the ocean, snorkeling, swimming, boating, and fishing. He loved running and completed numerous marathons and was an award-winning cookie baker. Al was an adoring husband, father, and G-Pa and loved spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered by all who met him as someone representing Christian love and service and the depth of his absence will be felt by all who knew him. Al’s parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Eileen, daughters, Brigid Ruberson (Joshua) and Katelyn Ardohain (Christopher) and his grandchildren, Kathryn, Anna, Josiah, Thomas, Steven and Jacob, as well as his siblings Richard Hollywood (Darlene), Teresa Giles (Thomas), and Kathleen Hollywood (Bruce), as well as all his nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at St. James the Just Catholic Church in Ogden, Utah, April 24th at 11:00 a.m. proceeded by the praying of the rosary at 10:30. Immediately following the mass, full military honors will be rendered in the courtyard with a reception to follow. The family would like to thank the EMTs and medical professionals who attended to Al and his family as he passed, and for the outpouring of love and support from the community, especially from his brethren in the Knights of Columbus. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden, Utah.
